The language row between different states in the country has been at an all-time high. Amid that, Sonu Nigam has spoken up against BJP MP, Tesajvi Suriya, who had attempted to fuel this row. While the controversy has been at an all-time high, there is confusion among the netizens about Sonu Nigam's response.
It was on May 21, 2025, when BJP MP, Tesjasvi Surya took to his X account and shared a video of a public sector bank, where an employee can be seen speaking in English. The clip showed the employee and a customer arguing, as the former spoke in English and the customer spoke in Kannada. He said that the bank employee's behaviour was 'simply not acceptable' and demanded that bank employees who have to deal with local customers must know the local language.
The language barrier and forced language cases all over the country have seen a massive spike in the past few months. Amid that, Sonu Nigam raised an objection to the BJP MP, Tejasvi's demand and instantly brought up all the international businesses that operate out of Bengaluru. Sonu, in his X post, was seen questioning Tejasvi. He added that if the language rules were so strict, then Kannada films should not be released in pan-India or dubbed in Hindi or any other language. He was quoted as saying:
"Don’t dub Kannada movies in Hindi! Don’t release Kannada movies pan-India! Do you have the guts to say this to Kannada film stars, Mr. @Tejasvi_Surya, or you are just another language warrior?"
In the same thread, Sonu added that according to Tejasvi's logic, Kannada should also be made mandatory in software companies. He shared that if American clients want to run their businesses in Karnataka, they must speak Kannada as well. Sonu further questioned the MP about whether he would be able to speak in several other regional languages if the same rule were to be applied and accused him of trying to divide the country on the basis of linguistic and regional differences. He stated:
"Kannada should also be made mandatory in software companies. If American clients conduct business in Karnataka, they should also speak in Kannada. There should be no compromise on this. Alright @Tejasvi_Surya ji? Period."
In a following tweet, Sonu Nigam called, Tejasvi Surya a disease and pointed out how the Bhartiya Janta Party had elected such a man MP for the second time. He added that people who hold such thoughts and divide the country are a disease to society. Sonu also pointed out how, be it Tejasvi from Bihar (Tejasvi Yadav) or Karnataka (Tejasvi Surya), both were behaving foolishly. He stated:

"A national party like BJP has made @Tejasvi_Surya an MP for the second time, but the spirit of nationalism could not become strong within him. People who hold cheap thoughts like linguism, regionalism, and casteism are like diseases. Whether it's Tejasvi from Bihar or Karnataka, both are behaving with the same foolishness."
While the response has taken the internet by storm, we would like to inform you that Sonu Nigam does not have an X handle. However, the post on X was written by Sonu Nigam Singh. Nonetheless, this was not the first time the two people had been confused. The same instance happened before, and the singer, Sonu Nigam, even took to his Instagram in February 2025 to clarify that he was not on Twitter or X. He even urged the government and X authorities to take action against the account. For now, the account is still active on X.
