Sonu Nigam Apologises After Complaint Is Filed Against Him Amid Bengaluru Concert Stir, 'Sorry..'

Sonu Nigam is one of the greatest singers in the history of Indian cinema who has lent his voice to sing songs in more than 32 languages, including Hindi, Nepali, English, Odia, Gujarati, and Kannada among others. Known for his soulful voice and versatility, the singer has a straightforward nature, which often leads him into controversies. Recently, Sonu once again came under scanner after he got involved in a clash with a few people at his Bengaluru concert who asked him to sing in the local language, Kannada. Amid the same, he compared the rude demands of those people to the Pahalgam attack which didn't go down well with some pro-Kannada groups. They filed a legal complaint against him and called for a ban on him in the state. Now, the singer has reacted to the same.

Sonu Nigam says he won't take humiliation from anyone

Sonu Nigam recently took to his Instagram handle and shared his views on the call for a ban and legal complaint filed against him amid the Bengaluru concert controversy. In a small and a long note, he shared that he has always admired music in Kannada language and its audience. Hw apologised to Karnataka and its people in the first note and mentioned that they will always come first than his ego. In the second, the singer explained that he has always given priority to singing Kannada songs in different parts of the world and loved them more than his songs in Hindi and other languages. Consequently, he won't tolerate any sort of disrespect, especially when it's done in the name of linguistic pride. Sonu penned:

"I am not a young lad to take humiliation from anyone. I am 51 years old, in the second half of my life and am entitled to take offence for someone as young as my son threatening me directly in front of thousands in the name of a language that too Kannada, which is my second language when it comes to my work. That, too, right after my first song of the concert!"

Sonu Nigam added that he had politely requested those 4-5 people who rudely demanded him to sing in Kannada, to stop. However, they continued and provoked others to do the same which embarrassed others. The singer also informed in the note that his team of musicians and singers had prepared a special song list of songs to perform in the night, and singing anything else would have hampered their sync. At the same time, Sonu highlighted that he doesn't like anyone trying to create hate over language, caste, religion, etc, which led to Pahalgam attacks. As a result, he did what he felt was right and left it to the people to decide. One extract from his note read:

"I leave it upto the sensible people of Karnataka to decide who is at fault here. I will accept your verdict gracefully. I fully respect and trust the law agencies and Police of Karnataka and will comply with whatever is expected from me. I have received divine love from Karnataka and will cherish it always with no malice whatsoever, irrespective of your verdict."
