While some couples fight all the odds and stick together through thick and thin, some pairs don’t make it. Celebrity breakups happen all the time, and every now and then, we hear the heartbreaking news about a famous couple calling it quits.
While the South Indian film industry has always set the record high when it comes to long-term marriages, some South couples have also shocked us with their separation announcement. A celebrity is always under media scrutiny, and thus their personal life is like an open book for the public. Thus, celebrity link-ups often hit the headlines and cause a stir in the lives of happily married couples. With that said, there have been a lot of celebrity marriages in the South Indian film industry that were allegedly ruined because of a third person. From Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu to Pawan Kalyan and Renu Desai, here's a look at celebs, who could not keep their marriage intact and went on to call it quits because of their alleged affairs.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya had tied the knot on October 6, 2017, after knowing each other for eight years. In August 2021, the speculations about their divorce had started doing the rounds in the media and on October 2, 2021, the couple had confirmed the same. Samantha and Chaitanya had officially announced their separation by issuing a joint statement on their respective IG handles. Their statement could be read as:
“To all our well-wishers. After much deliberation and thought Chay and I have decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue our own paths. We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of our relationship which we believe will always hold a special bond between us.”
Soon after the separation announcement, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was allegedly linked with her stylist, Preetham Jukalker. In an interview with The Times Of India, Preetham had addressed the issue and had stated that he was upset with Naga Chaitanya for maintaining silence about the same. He had revealed that Samantha is like his sister and he calls her jiji. He had said:
"Everybody knows that I call Samantha as ‘Jiji’ which is a north Indian term for sister. How can there possibly be a link-up between us? I’ve known Chaitanya for years. He too knows the kind of relationship that Samantha and I have. I feel that he could’ve spoken up and told people not to comment like that about Sam and me. Even if he had issued one statement, it would have made a lot of difference. Right now, it’s these so-called fans who are making these statements and spreading false rumours. I think a statement from Chaitanya’s side would’ve helped keep these people in check."
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth had tied the knot in a traditional Tamil wedding on November 18, 2004. The two had dated for six months before taking the plunge. On January 17, 2022, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth and Dhanush had taken to their respective social media handles and had shared a long note announcing their separation. The ex-couple had bared their hearts out on how difficult it was for them to take this important decision. Their note could be read as:
"18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting... Today we stand at a place where our paths separate... Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this."
While everyone is aware of Dhanush's illustrious exploits on the professional front, not many know about his alleged extramarital affair with Shruti Haasan that had reportedly set his marital life with his now-ex-wife, Aishwaryaa, on fire. In an interview with the Filmfare, Shruti Haasan was asked to reflect on all the reports and speculations about her having an affair with her friend, Aishwaryaa's husband, Dhanush. The actress had clearly stated that she was not going to put a microchip in her bum so that they could know the truth. Shruti had said:
"I'm not going around justifying to people. I'm not going to tell people to put a microchip in my bum and follow me, so that they can know the truth. He is my best friend in the business. He has always helped me artistically. I won't throw that in trash just because people are talking nonsense about us. I've never bothered much about what people say."
Prabhu Deva had got married to a classical dancer, Ramlatha, in 1995. It was believed that dancing had played Cupid between them, and probably it was a love marriage. Ramlatha was a Muslim and had converted to Hinduism in order to marry Prabhu and had changed her name to Latha post-marriage. The couple had three children, but unfortunately, the eldest son, Vishal, had died of cancer. Sometime in 2009, rumours of Prabhu Deva dating the Tamil actress, Nayanthara, had surfaced on tabloids and papers. Prabhu's alleged linkup had brought differences between him and his wife. Due to this, later, on July 2, 2010, Prabhu and Latha had ended their marriage of 16 years. While Latha had got custody of their sons, Prabhu had got the visiting rights.

After Prabhu’s divorce, he and Nayanthara had started living in Mumbai, in a live-in relationship. The fact that he would often go to Chennai to meet his two sons did not go well with Nayanthara, and in fact, Prabhu would sometimes lie to her that he was going for shoots and would actually go to Chennai. Another issue that had crept up between the two was that according to Nayanthara, Prabhu would often promise a wedding but would back off at the last moment. Finally, in 2012, Prabhu and Nayanthara had released a statement on their break-up. Talking once to The Times of India about her break up, Nayanthara was quoted as saying:
"That's too personal to get into'a break-up for anyone is the most difficult phase in their life. When you have to go away from someone you love or vice-versa, whatever the reason, it really shatters your life. But how you deal with it is important. I can't get into how I dealt with it but I have to if I want to move on and live my life."
On January 23, 2015, Trisha Krishnan had got engaged to her then-fiancee, Varun Manian, who was a Chennai-based businessman. The actress' engagement announcement had come as one of the biggest treats to her massive fanbase, however, their happiness was short-lived. After some months, in May 2015, Trisha had revealed that she had ended her relationship with Varun.
Though Trisha never addressed why she had broken her engagement, several reports had cited some reasons for the actress' engagement being called off. Some reports had stated that it was actor, Dhanush's presence at Trisha and Varun's engagement that had upset the Manian family, and thus, they had ended the relationship. A report had stated that Dhanush and Varun were not on good terms when Dhanush had shown up at the engagement ceremony.
When Varun had allegedly asked Trisha what Dhanush was doing at their engagement, it was reported that Trisha had lost her cool as she values her friends. When Varun's father had intervened, Trisha had reportedly asked her then-future-father-in-law not to intercede. Due to the lack of respect towards his father, Varun had reportedly decided to part ways, and the couple were not seen together after that.
Pawan Kalyan, a well-known actor of South Cinema, has married not twice but thrice. Pawan Kalyan had married his first wife, Nandini, in the year 1997. But after a few days of marriage, due to mutual differences, both of them had separated from each other. Meanwhile, Pawan Kalyan had started having an extramarital affair with his girlfriend, Renu Desai.
After dating for a long time, in 2004, Pawan Kalyan and Renu Desai had informed everyone that they have become parents to a child. After three years of complete silence, Pawan Kalyan and Nandini had finally filed for divorce in the year 2007, and after a year-long fight in court, the couple had got divorced in 2008. After this decision, Pawan had given five crore rupees to his ex-wife Nandini as alimony. The two had parted ways forever.
After this, the actor had announced his marriage to Renu Desai. The couple had got married on January 28, 2009. Renu and Pawan had also welcomed a baby girl into their lives. But due to some reasons, there was a rift in their relationship in the year 2011, and finally, in 2012, they had got divorced. After getting married to Renu Desai, they had separated within 3 years.
Well, looking at these short-lived loved stories and the celebs parting ways due to their alleged link-ups with another person is saddening.
