Sridevi Didn't Speak To Boney Kapoor For Six Months After He Proposed Her, 'You're Married And...'

Sridevi is one of the most popular actresses pan India, and her fanbase was spread across the globe. With more than 300 films to her credit, Sridevi was credited as the first female superstar in Indian cinema. Sridevi was the most successful heroine of the late 80s and early 90s and was even paid more than her male counterparts.

After her marriage to Boney Kapoor, Sridevi left acting and took care of her family and kids. Just like her professional life, Sridevi’s personal life, too, made a lot of noise. She tied the knot with Boney Kapoor in 1996, who already had two kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, from his first wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor.

There were many reports in the media back then of how Sridevi was a home wrecker and that she got pregnant before marriage. But do you know, the stunning actress stopped speaking to Boney Kapoor when he proposed to her. Read on to know the whole story.

Why did Sridevi stop talking to Boney Kapoor after he proposed to her?

When Boney Kapoor fell in love with the charming Sridevi, he was already a married man with two kids. But that didn’t stop him from falling for the actress. In a throwback interview with ABP News, the ace director revealed Sridevi was shocked when he proposed to her and stopped speaking to him for six months. In his words:

“It took me nearly five or six years to convince her. When I proposed, she was shocked and asked me, 'You're married and have two kids, how can you even say this to me?' After that, she didn't speak to me for six months.”

How did Sridevi fall in love with Boney Kapoor?

When Sridevi was signed for Mr. India, Boney Kapoor made sure that she got all the comforts while shooting for the film. To pamper her, Boney Kapoor had arranged the best make-up room and three costume designers. He was getting more and more attracted to her and even confessed the same to his ex-wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor. Boney was so much in love with Sridevi that he followed her to Chandni's shoot. Boney Kapoor had always wanted Sridevi to realise that he would be there for her, and gradually, she, too, had begun reciprocating to his love. 

Boney Kapoor’s love for Sridevi knew no limits. He would go to great lengths to impress her. When Boney narrated the script of Mr. India to Sridevi, her mother, who was also her manager, quoted Rs. 10 lakhs. It was a huge amount at that time, and Sridevi was the highest-paid actress, too. After hearing the amount, Boney offered Rs. 11 lakhs for her appearance in Mr. India.

At the India Today Woman Summit 2013, Boney revealed his obsession with Sridevi. The producer mentioned that his wife's 'innocence' had won him. In his words:

“Basically, Sri's an introvert. Her job done, she'd keep to herself. But what impressed me was her innocence. She was not corrupted by artifice. Mere dil ko woh gherti chali gayee. My obsession for her only grew each time I met her. She was so simple despite being a superstar."
