SRK-Gauri Khan's Surrogacy Journey Caused Boom In Queries, Says Their IVF Expert, 'AbRam's Birth..'

Shah Rukh Khan is not just a superstar in India, he is a global star whose popularity extends beyond the big screen. But amid all the fame, glitz, and larger-than-life persona, he is a doting father to his kids, Aryan, Suhana and AbRam. SRK and his wife Gauri's first two kids were born in 1997 and 2000, and when they grew up, the star couple welcomed their youngest son, AbRam, in 2013. It was big news, but what stunned many was the revelation that their third baby was born via Surrogacy. Then, the process was still a novel term in India, and in a recent interview, SRK's IVF expert, Dr. Jatin Shah, shared how the star couple's journey created a boom in surrogacy in India. 

AbRam's birth created a mindset shift towards surrogacy in India 

Dr. Jatin Shah, an IVF expert who guided Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri for the birth of their son, AbRam, recently sat down for a conversation with Aleena Dissects. As someone who has been practising in the field for a long time now, he shared how AbRam's birth brought a major shift in the perspective of Indians towards IVF in India. The doctor explained that despite guiding the star couple, they treat everyone with the same service. However, he did witness that after the star couple welcomed a baby via surrogacy, it created a general awareness about the concept in India. Dr. Jatin said:

"That way, it was good because it brought a lot of awareness about the procedure. There was a big boom in surrogacy after that. Till today, people walk into my clinic only because of that. People from the Middle East, Africa, the US, and the UK name the country. They say we found you because you made AbRam. That's something which will last forever so it's one of my best memories."

The IVF expert shared that many people approached him with queries about the surrogacy procedure that he recommended to SRK and Gauri. He explained that his practice is based on mothers who opt for the procedure and share that with other women in their circle. For those unaware, Shah Rukh and Gauri surprised fans after they welcomed a premature baby, AbRam, on May 27, 2013. They tried for two years before they consulted Dr. Jatin, who was reportedly suggested by Sohail Khan, who opted for the procedure in 2011 to welcome his youngest son.

Karan Johar's surrogacy created awareness about the process among single fathers 

Apart from SRK, his good friend and filmmaker, Karan Johar, also welcomed twins, Yash and Roohi via surrogacy in 2017. It created awareness among single fathers about surrogacy. Dr. Jatin explained that it was another shift as the concept of single fathers opting for surrogacy was popular in the West and not in India. So, he again got several queries from potential single fathers. However, that concept is still debatable on a general level. Sharing his views, the IVF expert said:

"There are always pros and cons. What if it's a female child? What if it's a male child? There was a lot of debate going around that. Before we could really get around it, the law came that it's now prohibited. Now, we can't do surrogacy around single fathers."

Shah Rukh Khan shared how AbRam's birth via surrogacy created baseless rumours in public 

Apart from the awareness, AbRam's birth also created baseless rumours which affected SRK's family. During his appearance at TED Talk in Vancouver, SRK revealed that when they welcomed their youngest child, a rumour started that the baby was a love child of his then 15-year-old, Aryan Khan and a girl in Romania. Moreover, a fake video was shared with the false speculation, which left his family, especially Aryan, distressed.
