SRK's Character Killed By Kajol's In 'Baazigar'? Director Duo Reveal Original Ending Of The Film

Baazigar, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and Kajol was released in 1993, and was a pioneer in cinema in many ways. Shah Rukh's first-ever iconic character was for this film, which also proved to be a stepping stone on his path to global stardom. Shilpa made her debut with this film and went on to establish a name for herself. Kajol and Shah Rukh's journey as the most iconic on-screen couple also began from this film. However, the director duo, Abbas and Mustan, recently revealed that the character of Shah Rukh Khan had a completely different backstory in the film's first draft and hence the ending was also changed after a massive script change.

Abbas-Mustan reveal that Shah Rukh Khan's character was supposed to be completely evil

Director duo, Abbas-Mustan, recently opened up about the unique concept of a 'negative hero' introduced in their magnum opus, Baazigar. Shah Rukh Khan's character in the film was negative, killing innocent people who stood in his way of revenge; however, his tormented backstory also made the audience root for him and portray him as a 'hero'. There were a lot of nuances and complexities to the character of 'Ajay Sharma/Vicky Malhotra'. Due to this (spoiler alert!), the death of Shah Rukh's character in the ending was emotionally charged for many fans.

However, in an interview with Lucky Bisht, the co-directors revealed that Shah Rukh's character was going to be 'out-and-out negative'. The character would see his drunkard and financially deprived father abusing his mother. As a result of this tough childhood, 'Ajay' would grow up wanting to be rich. As a result, he would con both the daughters of billionaire, 'Madan Chopra', into a relationship with him as part of his plans. He would also kill one of the two sisters to get closer to taking over the businessman's empire. This was the original character of Shah Rukh Khan, which went through a massive change in the second draft of the script.

Kajol's character was supposed to kill the antagonist portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan

In the first draft of the script, Shah Rukh Khan's character cons both sisters into dating him unbeknownst to them. However, he kills 'Seema' (played by Shilpa Shetty) as part of his revenge, but 'Priya' (Kajol) kills him in the end after she comes to know about his intentions and the fact that he murdered her sister. Hence, the heroine killed the hero in the original ending. However, Abbas and Mustan realised that the film would not work without emotions. Shah Rukh's 'Ajay' needed to have an emotional background and motive for him to be considered as a 'hero', even though he was a negative character.

As a result, this character background and ending was completely scrapped off. The new script, which became the final story and what the viewers got see, shows 'Ajay's tough childhood where his father was betrayed by 'Madan Chopra' and dies from a heart attack. After his family is completely destroyed, the 'negative hero' lives a life filled with struggles and vows to exact revenge on 'Madan Chopra' and reclaim his father's company. He does date both sisters and kills 'Seema' as part of his plans. But in the end, 'Ajay' and 'Madan Chopra' brutally fight and end up killing each other.
