One of the most celebrated filmmakers, S.S. Rajamouli is currently grabbing a lot of attention for his upcoming film, Varanasi, starring Priyanka Chopra, Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. For the unversed, the makers held an event on November 15, 2025, in Hyderabad at the Ramoji Film City. Amid all the love and appreciation, the filmmaker is also facing backlash for one of his statements during the event. 

S.S. Rajamouli faces backlash for his religious comment

For those who don’t know, S.S. Rajamouli turned a little emotional during his speech at the GlobeTrotter event on November 15, 2025. As soon as the clip went viral on X (formerly Twitter), a lot of netizens took to their X handles and shared their thoughts on the same and trolled the filmmaker for his statements.

One user commented, "Shocking what happened? Why is @ssrajamouli blaming lord Hanuman?" Another user shared, "Does not believe God, but needs Gods in his movies to make money." A third user penned, "Rajamouli sir, God has given you so much, this is so stupid and disappointing.." A fourth user commented, "The very fact that he forgot to blame the technical team and their tech for the glitches, instead blaming Lord Hanuman isn't appreciated." Another user shared their frustration and wrote:

"So far, I thought he is also one of the directors, but not an extra-ordinary. Today, it is proved. If he cannot respect god, tradition and culture - why you / me should watch his movies man? Just ignore."

For those who don’t know, at the GlobeTrotter event, S.S. Rajamouli addressed the crowd. During the same, he shared that he doesn’t believe in God. This line grabbed attention because his films are heavily inspired by mythology and God. In his speech, he continued to reveal that before the event, his father and wife told him that Lord Hanuman is with him, but he got angry at both of them. He had said:

"This is an emotional moment for me. I don't believe in God. My dad came and said Lord Hanuman is behind me and is guiding me. Is this how he takes care – thinking of this, I'm angry. My wife is also fond of Lord Hanuman. She behaves as if he were her friend and converses with him. I got angry at her as well."
