The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk was shot during a public speaking event in Utah. Kirk was speaking at a debate hosted by conservative youth organisation, Turning Point USA, at Utah Valley University, when the shooter fired from a distance, as reported from a roof. Utah Gov Spenser Cox tagged this incident a 'political assassination,' and the investigation is currently underway. Amid this, Stephen Colbert condemned the fatal killing of Charlie during Wednesday's episode of The Late Show.
It was several weeks ago that it was reported that The Late Show would go off the air in May 2026. While the reason was said to be 'financial', speculations were rife that there must be something else behind the show going off air. Stephen Colbert has grabbed the attention with his criticism of Donald Trump. Well, after the fatal assassination of Kirk, Colbert said that no political violence could solve the political differences. While offering his condolences to Kirk's family, Colbert mentioned that he doesn't hold the memories of any kind of political violence from the 1960s. He mentioned that this violence could never be a sign of things to come. Colbert said:
"Our condolences go out to his family and all of his loved ones. I am old enough to personally remember the political violence of the 1960s, and I hope it is obvious to everyone in America that political violence does not solve any of our political differences. Political violence only leads to more political violence. And I pray with all my heart that this is the aberrant action of a madman and not a sign of things to come."
Charile Kirk, whose full name was Charles James Kirk, was born in 1993, and from an early age, he rose to fame as a political activist and social media personality. At the age of 18, he co-founded Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which has since become the most influential conservative student movement in the country. He was one of the famous faces of Fox News, and in 2019, he launched his podcast. Charlie was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list and had an affluent social media presence. Charlie was a cultural warrior and an ally of Donald Trump.
In 2024, Charlie made an effort to revamp the GOP’s get-out-the-vote effort, which was based on the theory that several Trump supporters rarely voted but could be persuaded to do so. Charlie was speaking at the public event when he was shot dead. Reports stated that there had been only one attacker, who shot from a distance. As per the officials, one person of interest has been taken into custody, and there has been no evidence of multiple attacks.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is a popular American late-night talk show that airs on CBS. It was in July 2025, when reports claimed that the show would soon go off the air. After 33 years on air, CBS confirmed that the show would go off the air in May 2026, leading everyone to wonder what the possible reason might be.
