Netflix is bringing a special treat for Stranger Things fans this holiday season! As the globally acclaimed supernatural show closes out its final chapter, the franchise is doing so with a delightful twist. For the first time, fans will get to watch the series finale not only on the OTT giant but also in select movie theatres across the United States and Canada. Yes! TUDUM has officially announced the arrival of Hawkins to theatres for the final showdown.
After a successful release of Season 5 Volume 1 on November 26, 2025, new episodes from Volume 2 are set to drop on Christmas Day, followed by the grand finale, which lands on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025. Here’s how fans in the U.S. and Canada can watch the finale in theatres.

According to a post on Netflix Geeked’s X handle, theatre tickets for the fan screenings will go on sale starting December 2, 2025 (ET). The outlet has confirmed that the screenings will run in more than 350 theatres across the U.S. and Canada. Same as the OTT screening schedule, the final episode will premiere in the theatres on December 31 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET, timed to the global Netflix release. Fans will also catch repeat screenings of the 2-hour finale through January 1, 2026.

For fans in the U.S. and Canada, Cinemark has already uploaded theatre listings, including seat availability, and more locations are set to be added in the coming days. Regal theatres will also reportedly participate in the limited run. Announcing this special holiday treat, the Duffer brothers commented:
“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”

Starting December 2, 2025, fans in the U.S. can book tickets to the Stranger Things 5 finale at Megaplex Theatres, Regal Cinemas, Fandango, Atom Tickets, and Ticketmaster. Those in Canada can buy official tickets from Cineplex. Early booking is strongly advised because the finale is a two-hour cinematic episode designed for the big screen.

Season 5 closes in on the darkest chapter of Hawkins, and Volume 1 has already raised the stakes high. The season begins in the fall of 1987, showing a scarred Hawkins in the wake of the Rifts’ opening. The government has moved in, placing Hawkins under full military lockdown, and authorities are intensifying their search for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).

Meanwhile, ‘Henry’, aka ‘Vecna’ (Jamie Campbell Bower), is nowhere to be found. His silence is unsettling, and the group is scrambling to figure out what he is planning as the anniversary of Will’s 1983 disappearance draws near. Only this time, the dread that surrounded Hawkins four years ago has returned, with the threat larger and far more unpredictable.
The finale brings together the entire core cast for the last time, including Winona Ryder as ‘Joyce Byers’, David Harbour as ‘Jim Hopper’, Millie Bobby Brown as ‘Eleven’, Finn Wolfhard as ‘Mike Wheeler’, Caleb McLaughlin as ‘Lucas Sinclair’, Noah Schnapp as ‘Will Byers’, Gaten Matarazzo as ‘Dustin Henderson’, Sadie Sink as ‘Max Mayfield’, Natalia Dyer as ‘Nancy Wheeler’, Joe Keery as ‘Steve Harrington’, Charlie Heaton as ‘Jonathan Byers’, Maya Hawke as ‘Robin Buckley’, and Jamie Campbell Bower as ‘Vecna’.

The first volume, containing Episodes 1-4, premiered on Netflix on November 26, 2025. Volume 2 (Episodes 5–7) will be released on December 25, 2025, followed by the finale episode (Episode 8) on December 31, 2025.

For fans in the U.S., the brownie points don’t end at the season finale theatrical release: Netflix is bringing some additional events for a more immersive experience. There is a Stranger Things-themed bike ride in Los Angeles, custom 'create your own' Funko Pop stations, and brand-new Season 5 merchandise, along with a dedicated celebration week for the Broadway play titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
Well, if you are in the U.S. or Canada and planning to ring in the New Year with the Hawkins’ heroes, make sure to lock in your seat at your earliest, starting December 2, 2025.
