Nose piercing can be done either on the nostril or the septum. The latter is the piercing of the skin which is between the two nostrils. There are two ways to get a nose piercing done either by a needle or by a stud gun. Both the processes are hygienic, safe and give due importance to sterilisation.

You can get a nose piercing done at any professional salon, jewellers’ store, or at body art shops, or piercing booths. But before you get one done make sure they practice hygienic ways and use sterilised equipment. Do a thorough background check on their reputation to be safe and protected against any infections.

  • Wash the piercing carefully, at least twice a day, with a sanitising liquid.
  • Do not touch the nose again and again.
  • Whenever a layer of crusting appears around the piercing, use a saline solution to wipe it off.
  • Apply lavender oil on the piercing to reduce the tenderness and aid in the healing process.

#3. Types of nose jewellery

nose ring trends in bollywood

Nose jewellery can be little studs, small rings or even large hoops. Most of the Indian nose wear is in titanium, silver, gold and stainless steel. The best part is they have a variety of colours or stones embedded in them to enhance the look and the overall beauty. Here are some different types of nose rings that you will find in the market:

  • Nostril screw is a flat stick that is worn and held by a screw. This could be a stud, a flower or any unique flat design.
  • Septum rings are often sighted in traditional south Indian religious and marriage functions. They are intricate gold rings that hang from the bridge connecting the nostril or septum.
  • Large gold hoops with semi-precious stones or pearl beads are often found to be worn by Indian brides (Aishwarya Rai's look in Jodha Akhbar).
  • In Maharashtra, women are known to wear the very unique traditional pearl nose pin on the side of the nose, which adds to their overall beauty (what Genelia d'souza wore during her Maharashtrian style wedding to actor Riteish Deshmukh).

#4. Diva effects

From Madhuri Dixit in the 1990 hit song ‘Humko aajkal hai…’ to Chitrangada Singh’s ‘kafirana’ song in 2012, Bollywood shares a strong bond with the trend of stylising nose rings. Even the Hollywood divas like Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Kesha have shown their love for nose rings. Well, while some have made the trend look hot and chic, others have just made a mismatched fashion faux pas out of it.
