Suchitra Krishnamoorthi began her acting career at the mere age of 12, with the TV serial, Chunauti. Afterwards, the gorgeousness made her acting debut with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepak Tijori starring film, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. The film gave immense stardom to Suchitra. But despite being at the peak of her acting career, she left it to become a housewife. For the unversed, she tied the knot with ace filmmaker, Shekhar Kapur in 1997. Later, in 2006, they got divorced due to some reasons best known to them. Now, she opened up about why she didn't protest when her ex-husband forbade her from acting.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi revealed how she was a born rebel. The actor-singer mentioned that it was thus when her parents showed their strictness towards her and her ex-husband, Shekhar Kapur didn't want her to continue acting that she gravitated towards films. Elaborating more on it, Suchitra said:
“Because her husband tells her he doesn’t want her to act. I also feel that if my parents were not so strict, I would have not gravitated towards films. I was a rebel. In retrospect, I don’t know… like I said.. Slavery..”

In the same conversation, Suchitra revealed she was once extremely passionate about acting. However, post-marriage, her ex-husband, Shekhar told her to stop acting in films. But his opinion didn't matter to her much as she also wanted to have a family. And despite facing the patriarchal remarks, she didn't protest what her ex-husband, Shekhar wanted. She added:
“I think I just had this mad, passionate, crazy idea of love. So, when my husband said don’t act, I said ok. So, it wasn’t so important. It’s not like somebody held a gun at my head and said ‘you can’t do.’ I was so in my world, it did not matter. That’s what I wanted. I wanted marriage, I wanted kids and I wanted a family and I never thought…”
Further, Suchitra was asked why she never appeared in her ex-husband and ace-filmmaker, Sekhar's films. To this, the stunning actress mentioned that the directors in the film industry are very cunning. Thus, Shekhar kept his wife away from the films. Suchitra mentioned:

“Kyunki yeh itne badmaash hein yeh director log, that’s why they don’t want their wives to act. Kyunki khud bohot badmaash hai.”

Suchitra finally returned to acting in 2019 with the film, Romeo Akbar Walter. During the interview, she mentioned that it was only after parting ways with Shekhar that the actress decided to return to acting. However, she was disgusted by people’s attitudes and judgments towards her. She concluded:
“My marriage was collapsing, I had not filed for divorce yet. But I knew I need to get back home and dig my roots back. It is such a patriarchal world. Everybody kept asking, ‘Shekhar won’t mind?’ ‘Shekhar will allow you to act?’ I was so disgusted with that attitude.”
