Suhani Bhatnagar left for her heavenly abode on February 16, 2024. The actress rose to popularity with her role as young ‘Babita Phogat’ in the 2016 film, Dangal. Suhani left everyone from the fraternity deeply saddened as she passed away at the mere age of 19. From Aamir Khan’s production house to her co-stars, everyone has expressed their heartfelt condolences on Suhani’s sudden demise. As per reports, the young actress had a rare inflammatory disease called dermatomyositis.
Recently, Suhani’s mother, Pooja Bhatnagar had an interaction with ANI, where she spoke about how her late daughter brought them recognition in the society. She also shed light on how Aamir Khan bonded with their family. Suhani’s mother mentioned that they got a lot of recognition as ‘Dangal girl’s parents.’ She said:
“Har parent proud feel karta hai ki woh apne bache ke naam se jana jata hai. Hamari kya identity thi? Hume jo recognition mila hai woh to Suhani ki wajah se hi mila hai, ki ye ‘Dangal girl ke parents hain’, jahan bhi jana ho uski recognition hoti thi, har ek ko apna bacha bahut acha lagta hai par hamara bacha hume bahut proud feel kara ke gaya hai.”

Suhani’s mother further recalled how Aamir Khan was always in touch with their family even after Dangal. She said that they had not informed the acclaimed actor of Suhani’s disease as they were already very disturbed. Pooja Bhatnagar said if they had informed Aamir Khan, he would have personally texted them and called them. She said:
“Aamir sir toh bohot hamare touch mein rahe hai. He is a nice person. Wo hamesha iske (Suhani) ke saath touch mein rahe hai. Humne unko bataya nahi tha, kyunki hum khud hi itne zyada pareshaan chal rahe the, toh humne kisi ko inform nahi kiya, but definitely agar ek message bhi jayega unko toh immediately unka response aata hai aur wo humein personally call karte hai. To wo Suhani ke saath bonded rahe hai shuru se. Abhi unki daughter ki bhi marriage huyi hai, humein invte aaya tha proper, phone bhi aaya tha ki aapko aana hai.”
Suhani’s mother, Pooja also shared that her daughter had been a brilliant girl and wanted to excel in every field she ever stepped into. While the Dangal actress always wanted to be an actor, she still also knew it was important for her to complete her studies before fully committing herself to acting. Suhani’s mother further added:
“Dangal ke baad usne kuch kiya nahi, thode bohot ads wagera kiya aur kuch kiya nahi kyunki hum chahte they ki wo apni qualification complete kare because usko jaana acting line mein hi tha, toh usne bola ki ‘Mumma, main bhi yahi chahti hun ki main apni graduation complete kar ke apne phir jaungi uss line mein taki thoda sa mera aur accha ho jayega.’ Phir usne apna regular schooling kiya, college gayi aur college mein bhi bohot accha kar rhi thi. Last semester mein usne top bhi kiya tha. She was a brilliant girl, har cheez mein wo excel karna chahti thi.”

In the same interview, Suhani’s father also talked about the sudden diagnosis of her disease just two weeks before her untimely death. He said that Suhani was admitted to AIIMS Delhi for treatment. He further added that dermatomyositis is a rare condition and needs time to be cured. Unfortunately, when Suhani was admitted to the hospital, she got infected due to her weakened immune system. And it was due to the infection that Suhani’s lungs got affected, causing fluid build-up, and ultimately leading to her demise on February 16, 2024.
