Actress Sunita Chand Rajwar is known for her out-of-the-box roles and has often been praised for her nuanced performances. A graduate of the National School of Drama, Sunita gained huge success with her role as ‘Kranti Devi’ in the web series, Panchayat. Sunita made her big screen debut in 2003 with the film, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon.
She later gave many memorable roles in movies such as Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Bala and Stree. Apart from films, Sunita has also been a part of many television shows. Did you know that the actress once dated Nawazuddin Siddiqui? Not only this, but their breakup created a huge controversy years later. Read on to more about it.
As per multiple reports, Sunita was Nawazuddin’s first girlfriend and their affair began during a play in NSD. When Nawazuddin’s memoir, An Ordinary Life, was released, his affair with Sunita came into the limelight. The actor mentioned that Sunita fell madly in love with him and scrawled their names in tiny fonts all over the walls of his house.
In his memoir, Nawazuddin mentioned that when Sunita came back from her hometown, she stopped picking up his calls. One day, the actress casually told Nawaz to concentrate on his career and cut off all contact with him. His breakup with Sunita left a deep impact on Nawaz, who stayed depressed for days and even turned suicidal.
In his memoir, Nawazuddin Siddiqui mentioned the reason behind his breakup with Sunita Rajwar and revealed his lack of work and money was the reason behind it. Revealing how he stopped investing in any relationship after his breakup with Sunita, Nawaz penned:

“Never again did I allow myself to be vulnerable like that again, not even with my wife… Yet it was important to analyse what had happened… [Sunita must have been advised] she should probably date someone successful, not a struggling, desperate actor who was out of work. Today, Sunita tells everybody that she was once together with me in a very serious relationship. Incredible, isn’t it?”
Soon after Nawaz’s memoir was published, Sunita reacted to the same and criticised the actor for spreading lies to gain sympathy. In a long Facebook post, Sunita revealed that her breakup with Nawaz didn’t happen because of his ‘poor status’ but rather his ‘poor thinking’. She also revealed that the actor never took the relationship seriously and made it look like a joke in front of their friends. After receiving so much criticism, Nawaz decided to take off his memoir from the market and also penned an apology on Twitter for offending some people.
After Nawazuddin Siddiqui took off his memoir, Sunita reportedly filed a Rs. 2 crore defamation case against him. On the other hand, Nawaz reacted to the notice and called Sunita’s accusations 'cheap publicity' stunts. He also stated that the Sunita mentioned in his memoir is not her, but instead some other Sunita.
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Sunita revealed that Nawazuddin is a liar and that the actor had penned about her, maligning her reputation. Speaking about the same, she said:
“He is lying that I am not the same Sunita. First, he wrote my name in the book along with National School of Drama, although without surname, but there was no other Sunita in NSD during our batch. Then he referred to that girl as ‘Pahadi Girl’, again there was no other girl from the hills, other than me. Then he also mentioned that the Sunita in his book was a roommate of famous television actress Achint Kaur, because of whose influence she might have left him, so it’s clear as I was sharing accommodation with Achint Kaur.”
Well, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s claim about his alleged affair and breakup with Sunita Rajwar created a lot of controversy and public spat between the two celebrated stars.
