Sunita Rajwar is a seasoned actress who has earned the much-deserved praise and fame for her portrayal of the iconic ‘Kranti Devi’, the feisty opponent of ‘Manju Devi’ (Neena Gupta) in Amazon Prime Video’s hit series, Panchayat. After its much-awaited premiere on June 24, 2025, fans have binged through the entire season of Panchayat 4 overnight and are already awaiting Season 5. Sunita Rajwar receives online hate for her character’s actions in Panchayat 4

Season 4 of Panchayat brought back the rustic charm of ‘Phulera’, but this time, the tone turned more intense with rising political tension ahead of the Panchayat elections. One scene that sparked major backlash featured ‘Kranti Devi’, played by Sunita Rajwar, hurling insults at the pregnant ‘Khushboo’, played by Tripti Sahu.

While many fans appreciated Sunita’s powerful performance, others took it personally and sent her hate messages and abuse through Instagram DMs. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sunita revealed that the outrage actually boosted her confidence, proving she portrayed the negative role convincingly and authentically. She shared:

“Mujhe log bahut buri-buri gaaliyan de rahe hain, saying: ‘How could you make such nasty comments to a pregnant Khushboo?’... Koi kos raha hai, koi bad-dua de raha hai… On one hand, they’re congratulating me for becoming the pradhan in the show, and on the other, they’re cursing me for that comment. My Insta inbox is filled with abuses. But it has boosted my confidence as I feel I played my part convincingly.”

Despite all the unnecessary hate she receives for playing a negative fictional character, Sunita doesn’t let the negativity get to her. The Gullak actress shared that she has learned to find humour in how much viewers have emotionally invested in the show’s characters. Calling all this hate her ‘medal’, the actress said:

“My husband and I were reading the messages and laughing about how innocently people get so involved in a show, despite knowing it’s fake. Later, I am thinking of making a reel based on these comments. Such things are a medal for me as it gives me the confidence that I was able to play my role convincingly.”

Sunita Rajwar talks about ‘Manju Devi’s ‘Nasty retaliation

For those who haven’t watched the latest season, the scene that deepened the hate for Sunita Rajwar’s character is when ‘Manju Devi’ engages in a bitter verbal spat in the middle of the road with ‘Vikas’s (Chandan Roy)  pregnant wife, ‘Khushboo’. She crosses the line and says something regarding ‘Khushboo’s relationship with ‘Prahlad’ (Faisal Malik) that moves her to tears.

Defending the scene, Sunita explained that it was a reactionary moment, as ‘Manju Devi’ (Neena Gupta), also makes remarks about her character being linked with the MLA. However, given the pre-established negative image of ‘Kranti Devi’, it became more prominent. In her words:

“See, in the show, Manju Devi (Neena Gupta) also makes comments on my character liking me with the MLA. In anger, I too do the same. As Kranti Devi, I was totally convinced about my nasty retaliation, but then, since my role is negative, it looks bad! However, personally, I am not justifying it.
