Sunjay Kapur's sudden and untimely demise on June 12, 2025, has left a deep void in the hearts of his friends, family, and well-wishers. The 53-year-old industrialist passed away during a polo match in England after allegedly suffering a fatal heart attack. Sunjay, who was known for his passion for Polo, dynamic presence in the business world and strong family values, was full of life, which has made it difficult for his loved ones to get used to his absence, especially after knowing that just three months ago, he shared how he had chalked out a plan for the next 10 years of his life in a hope to focus more on important things in his life.
Sunjay Kapur sat down for a conversation with the Indian Silicon Valley podcast just months before his death. During the conversation, he reflected on his life until then and expressed hope and optimism towards his future. Reflecting on his blended family, Sunjay admitted that being in a unit wasn't always easy. However, he was grateful to have established a system after years of struggle where everyone loved each other. In his words:
"It's important that we build a unit. We come from a blended family, so it's not always easy. But we've been very fortunate to have a system where we all work together where we love each other. And I want that to continue even after my wife and I's lifetime."
For those unaware, Sunjay was a father of four children, among which two he shared with ex-wife, Karisma which included his daughter, Samaira and son, Kiaan. In addition, he was also a father to his third wife, Priya's daughter from her first marriage, Safira and their son, Azarias. So, in his conversation, the industrialist, who was also a responsible father, highlighted that he wanted to invest his time and efforts to create a loving and unified environment for his children to grow up in despite divorce.
Sunjay Kapur took over the responsibility of his father's business and became the chairman of Sona Comstar after a lot of hard work. However, he shared that in the next ten years, he wanted to live a life beyond that role to strike a balance between his work and non-work engagements. From fitness, sports, and family time to social work, Sunjay wanted to prioritise the right things in life. Sharing his plan, he said:
"Sport is very important to me; health and fitness are very important to me. I play active polo, and I run a team. I play as often as I can. However, what's also important to me is that I give back to my family. When I drew up my 10-year plan, I actually wrote down the broad strokes of work-related and non-work-related, foundation-related. I fleshed out 2025 to define what I will do. I'm not the sort of person who can sit around without a packed schedule. It's a great luxury to be the master of your own time."
Billionaire industrialist, Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, while playing a match of Polo with his team, Aureus, at Guards Polo Club in London, UK. He had reportedly swallowed a bee while playing the game, which blocked his windpipe and triggered a heart attack. His company confirmed the news of his death, and they gave no additional details about the case of his demise. Sunjay's funeral was held in Delhi on June 19, 2025, followed by a prayer meeting. His wife and all four kids paid their final respects in both the events. Also, his ex-wife, Karisma accompanied her kids with her sister, Kareena and husband, Saif Ali Khan.
