Sunjay Kapur's Wife, Priya Says Nothing Suspicious If Husband Gives All Assets To Wife, 'Tradition'

Following Sunjay Kapur's untimely death on June 12, 2025, his complex family dynamics have come to light. A family feud has been going on over the inheritance of Sunjay Kapur's Rs. 30,000 crore in assets, involving his third wife, Priya Sachdev, his mother, Rani Kapur, his children, Samaira and Kiaan, and ex-wife Karisma Kapoor. Recently, Priya's legal representative argued that a husband can transfer all his assets to his wife.

Priya Sachdev's lawyer defends husbands giving away all of their assets to wives

After the drama over Sunjay Kapur's will, his children with Karisma Kapoor have accused their stepmother, Priya, of forging the document. Amid this, her legal counsel, Rajiv Nayar, defended the will and said there was nothing suspicious about a husband leaving all his assets to his wife. Priya's lawyer also shared that Sunjay's father had also done the same thing and left everything for Rani Kapur. The senior advocate relayed Priya's statement, which said:

"There is nothing suspicious about a husband giving everything in his assets to his wife. As is the case in my father-in-law's 'will' where everything was given to his wife. It is a healthy tradition which perhaps has been maintained."

Priya Sachdev's lawyer had countered will forgery claims made by Karisma Kapoor's lawyers

Samaira and Kiaan's lawyer claimed that Sunjay's will contains many mistakes, such as the wrong home address for his daughter and misspelt his son's name in many places. He has questioned the validity of the will. However, Priya Sachdev's lawyer countered it and said:

"I ask myself in which proceeding are we putting the Will to issue? This is not a probate proceeding. You have not challenged the execution or validity of the Will in the pleadings. There is no declaration sought for cancelling it."

Advocate Nair stated that there is no challenge to the will of Sunjay Kapur since the lawsuit was filed by his children on September 9, 2025, while the will was shared with them on September 15, 2025. He also said that if Priya Sachdev had to forge the will, she would have done it completely, not just write wrong addresses and incorrect name spellings. He was quoted as saying:

“I am told that there are four additional grounds to invalidate a will -- wrong spelling, wrong address, writing testatrix instead of testator, and the closeness of witnesses. In my 45 years of experience, I have never seen a Will invalidated for spelling errors. Forgery has to be complete no mistakes would be left. And this lady (Priya Kapur) is not a housewife; she is an investment banker. Would she spell her son's name wrong?”
