Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025. And the reason behind his demise had shocked everyone, which was said to be due to Sunjay swallowing a bee, which led to a heart attack. After one month of the same, a legal battle in the family began. It all started when Rani Kapur raised suspicion over her son's demise, and mentioned that she was forced to sign documents. Following this, Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur's kids, Kiaan and Samaira, dragged Priya to the court, accusing her of forgery. Amid this, let's know why Sunjay Kapur's first wife, Nandita Mahtani, isn't a part of this legal battle.
Sunjay Kapur had been married three times in his life. His first wife was Nandita Mahtani. According to reports, he married Nandita in 1996, and their marriage ended in 2000, reportedly due to his flings. Following their divorce, Sunjay got married to Karisma Kapoor in 2003. Unlike his other two wives, Sunjay had no children with his first wife, Nandita, which is believed to be the main reason she isn't involved in the legal battle. It was after Sunjay's demise that Mandhira Kapur shared a post, remembering her brother, to which Nandita reacted with love emoticons, suggesting she and the late businessman might have been on cordial terms.
Nandita Mahtani is a fashion designer, who married Sunjay Kapur back in 1996. She is known for styling Virat Kohli, Gauri Khan and others. Apart from her professional career, Nandita was known for her high-profile dating life. She was reportedly in a relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, who has a crush on her. On the other hand, she also dated Dino Morea, and their relationship ended in 2016. With Dino, Nandita co-owned a company named Playground. Apart from these two relationships, Nandita was in a relationship with Vidyut Jamwal. The duo even got engaged, and they were all set to get married. Everything was going well until 2023, when they called it quits.
After Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira and Kiaan, filed a lawsuit, a hearing was held in the Delhi High Court, where Priya's lawyers claimed that Rs. 1990 crore had already been paid to them. Shortly after, the actress's family changed their tone and filed the suit. On the other hand, Karisma's lawyers claimed that all of the will be fake while demanding an equal share in Sunjay Kapur's estate.
Priya, through her lawyer, stated that she was the only legal wife of Sunjay and questioned how Karisma could have entered their lives after all these years. She also attacked the actress by stating that Sunjay had left Karisma several years ago. For the uninitiated, before Sunjay's demise, Priya had a close bond with her stepchildren, Kiaan and Samaira. Sunjay and Priya have a son, and the businessman also fathered the latter's daughter from her first marriage.
