Business tycoon and ex-husband of Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay Kapur, tragically passed away on June 12, 2025, while playing polo in the United Kingdom. According to reports, the Sona Comstar chairman suffered from an allergic reaction after he accidentally swallowed a bee, which led to a cardiac arrest and eventually his death. His untimely demise sent shockwaves across the business and entertainment world alike. His funeral took place shortly after in New Delhi. However, after a month of his passing, his mother, Rani Kapur, had raised some serious doubts and allegations over her son’s demise. Her claims have shocked the world, and now her legal representative has made a statement.

More than a month after his demise, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, raised some serious concerns about the circumstances of her son's death. In a letter dated July 24, 2025, addressed to the board of Sona Comstar, she described his passing as ‘highly suspicious and unexplained.’ Rani alleged that despite repeated requests, she had been denied access to proper documentation and answers surrounding the incident that resulted in her son’s death.

Rani Kapur claimed coercion and legacy usurpation 

Rani Kapur further alleged she was forced to sign documents behind locked doors during her grieving period. She claimed she was not emotionally stable at the time and was given no explanation about the contents of the paperwork. She also accused a few select individuals of attempting to usurp the Kapur family legacy and she denied consenting to any new board appointments within the Sona Group of Companies.

Rani Kapur’s legal representative has issued a strong statement

In a new development, Rani Kapur’s legal representative and senior advocate, Vaibhav Gaggar has come forward with his take. He said his client will not stay silent, and the truth will be acknowledged. Reports suggest legal steps being considered by Rani to challenge the recent board changes. Her lawyer could be quoted as saying:

“For my client, as a mother, it’s deeply painful to watch this being dismissed as a mere freak accident and cardiac arrest. The truth doesn’t match the headlines…She (Rani) will not stay silent until the truth is acknowledged."
