Sunjay Kapur's Sister Mandhira Slams Priya For Defamation Case Against Her, 'Want To Play The Game?'

It was in June 2025 that Sunjay Kapur passed away while he was playing polo. He reportedly swallowed a bee, which caused an allergic reaction in his body, eventually leading him to experience a cardiac arrest, which claimed his life. Sunjay Kapur's demise came as a shock to everyone, and since then, Sunjay Kapur's family, including his mother and sister, his wife, Priya, and ex-wife, Krisma Kapoor and her kids, have been engaged in a nasty legal fight over Sunjay Kapur's Rs. 30,000 crore property. Things have been pretty intense, and several suits have been lodged, but nothing has been solved yet. Amid this, on January 17, 2026, when Priya Kapur filed a defamation case against Mandhira Kapur Smith, she now reacted to the same.

Mandhira Kapur Smith reacts to Priya Kapur filing a criminal lawsuit against her

Madhira Kapur Smith recently sat for an interview with Hindustan Times, where she was asked about her reaction to Priya Kapur's defamation case against her. To this, Mandhira revealed that whatever she has said has been mentioned in the court, and she has not lied about anything, which she can guarantee. Madhira further added that she finds it funny that before her, the media got its hands on the case filed against her.

In the same interview, Mandhira Kapur shared that she sits with her mother, who tells her to bring back everything that she has built with her late husband. Mandhira stated that she has nothing to do if anything makes Priya upset. Mandhira further stated that her mother, who has built everything, now has nothing to her name, so one can understand what Rani Kapur must be going through. Mandhira could be quoted as saying:

"I sit with my mother everyday, and she says ‘get everything back, your father (Surinder Kapoor) and I built this’ It’s horrible, what our family is going through. I am not going to go out there and lie to anybody about what the reality is. There’s nothing I can do if Priya is upset. I don’t blame her for being upset, but it is the truth. My mother, who built everything, today doesn’t have anything on her name. Imagine what she is going through."

Mandhira Kapur reacts to the accusations of her 'vested interests' 

In the same interview, Mandhira Kapur was asked why she didn't come forward beforehand and reveal all these when Sunjay was alive, which also sparked gossip about her 'vested interest'. Speaking about the same, Mandhira said she doesn't really care about who says what, but she knows that everything was meant to be in her mother's name, which their father wanted as well. She also mentioned that just like everyone, Priya would also get what was meant for her, and no one was going to cut her off, but she cannot just take everything and walk away. Mandhira could be quoted as saying:

"The fact is, all this belongs to my mother, my sister, to me, our children, my brother’s children. No one was trying to cut Priya out, she is the one who has done all this. No one was going to cut out of her bit of the family inheritance, but you don’t take it all and walk away. My father and mother never planned to give it to one child. We are going to fight for what is my mother’s first while she is alive. Everything was meant to be on her name, and that’s what my dad wanted."

Concluding her statements, Mandhira Kapur shared that she's in touch with Karisma Kapoor and her kids, while adding that Kiaan and Samaira lost their best friends and their dad, while her own mother has lost her son, and it's tough. She added that while everyone is thinking that it's about money, it's actually about the legacy that Sunjay Kapur and his dad had built. She mentioned that the company was doing well earlier, not now, while asking if she should also file a defamation case against Priya. She questioned:

"The kids have lost their best friend. My mother lost her son. It’s very tough. Everyone is going on about the money, but it’s also about my father’s legacy. The whole story that she (Priya) is doing about my father, that he ran down the company to the ground and my brother brought it up... no, the company was doing really well. Should I put a defamation against her now? You want to play this game? We can keep playing it. I have got nothing to lose."
