Sushmita Sen Reveals Calling Netflix, Amazon Heads As She Wanted To Comeback, 'I Am An Actor'

Bollywood actress, Sushmita Sen is known to be fierce both on and off the screen. The Main Hoon Na actress had taken a long break and then had to take matters into her hands when she wanted to make a comeback. The former Miss Universe revealed how she had personally reached out to the heads of top OTT giants, including Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, and expressed to them her dream and desire to work one more time.

Sushmita sat down recently for an interview with Mid-Day and shared of wanting to make a comeback in the entertainment industry. She was someone who did not shy away from making a phone call and asking people for work as she needed the same. Sushmita revealed that she had made the call to the digital platform heads to tell them that she is an actress and would like to make her comeback. Sushmita shared in a short video:

"I called up the heads of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar. And, I said, ‘My name is Sushmita Sen. I am an actor, I used to be one anyway. And, I want to come back and work. I have not worked for 8 years and it was a long time."

One of the most phenomenal performances of Sushmita was in the movie, Taali back in 2023, where she essayed the role of a transgender activist named Gauri Sawant. Sushmita's performance was widely loved, while there were critics who did question that a transgender actor should have been cast in the movie. Sushmita addressed the concern and shared that she was hesitant until she learned that real-life Gauri actually wanted the actress to play the part. Sushmita revealed that she was not fine playing the role of a transgender activist in Taali and revealed that when she took an eight-year-long break, she wanted to reflect on herself. She was looking for better roles work-wise, and the universe had given her an opportunity, and Sushmita ensured to grab it with open arms.

When Sushmita Sen revealed that good work was not coming her way

The former Miss Universe, Sushmita, had taken a break from work after she adopted her second child, Alisah, back in 2010. She wanted to devote her time to her kids, and the scripts that came her way were all drying up, and she was not at all seen in the industry. Sushmita shared that her endorsements enabled her to proceed financially. Speaking of the kind of work she was getting, in an earlier interview with the Indian Express, Sushmita revealed:

"The scripts that were coming, they also dried up, obviously because I wasn’t visible. We had branches of Renee Jewellers all over the Middle East. So, we were looking into that, and I was also doing some endorsements."

Sushmita Sen revealed that she had taken an eight-year-long break to sit back and observe life, aiming to become a better actress. She felt that observation was important for any performer, and then in 2020, she made her comeback with Aarya, which was directed by Ram Madhvani. The series gave her a big shift in her career.
