Sushmita Sen is not just a gorgeous actress, but also a mother with a golden heart. There is no doubt that she had made the nation proud when she had won the coveted title of Miss Universe at the mere age of 19. But, when she had taken the bold step of adoption at the age of 24, she had proved that motherhood comes naturally to a woman and it has nothing to do with marriage.
Sushmita has often talked about her complicated legal battle during Renee’s adoption. However, even after facing a bunch of hurdles, Sushmita’s spirit didn’t deter and she did everything to bring her 6-month-old Renee home. In 2010, the gorgeousness had adopted her second child, Alisah. Sushmita, who had broken all the stereotypical norms of society, is an inspiration to millions.

In a conversation with Twinkle Khanna for Tweak India, Sushmita Sen opened up about her legal battle during the adoption of Renee. Sharing details of the same, Sushmita said:
“It was just something that I knew I had to do and to do that my last precedent was a 29-year-old divorced woman who was allowed adoption…single but divorced. I am applying at 21, never been married, fertile - all of these are a problem. They would obviously fight it.”
Sushmita, who had got Renee under foster care, recalled the court hearing that had happened 6 months later. Sharing how determined she was in her decision of adopting Renee, Sushmita had told her father:
“So I had told my baba and the driver, ‘Baba, jaise hi bahar niklenge room se, gadi start kro, hum bhag jaenge bachhe ko leke because ye to mazak hai. They can’t say no. She’s almost calling me Ma’.”

In the same interview, Sushmita retorted that she had sobbed in front of the judge and had promised him that she would do anything for Renee. And then, when the judge had asked her father, Shubeer Sen, whether he was okay with his daughter’s decision to adopt, knowing that it would affect her marriage plans? Quoting him, Sushmita said:
“She has chosen this motherhood and one thing I know my daughter to do is follow through.”
