Bollywood actress, Swara Bhasker has been working in the Hindi film industry for a long time. She had made her debut with the 2009 film, Madholal Keep Walking. She had risen to fame for her film, Tanu Weds Manu, which was released in 2011. She had also received a lot of appreciation for her role in the film, Raanjhanaa, in 2013. Apart from that, she had played supporting roles in many films like Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, amongst others.
Swara Bhasker never shies away from expressing her opinions and doesn’t mince her words. The actress often hits the headlines for her controversial statements and rebellious nature. In an interview with Mid-Day, Swara talked about how there are lakhs of children in orphanages and expressed her desire to adopt one of them. She revealed that she read up about adoption, and also met other couples, who had adopted children, before making the final decision. She said:
"I've always wanted a family and children. I realised that adoption was a way to marry these things. Luckily in India, the State allows single women to adopt. I met many couples who have adopted children, met some children who were adopted and are now almost adults. I read up on the process and experience."
Swara had celebrated this year's Diwali with young girls at an orphanage in Delhi, and had later signed up as an adoptive parent with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). After doing a lot of research, Swara had told her parents about her decision to opt for adoption and they were ‘fully supportive’. Sharing that she is currently on the waiting list to adopt a child, the actress added:
“I am now a prospective adoptive parent on CARA. I know the waiting period is long, often as long as three years, but I can’t wait to be a parent to a child through adoption.”

Swara has always been vocal about everything trivial. However, this is not the first time, when the actress has brought out the topic of marriage and having a family. Earlier, in an interview with DNA, she had talked about her belief in the institution of marriage and what she thinks about live-in relationships. Shedding light on the same, Swara had said:
"I have been in a live-in relationship, but I haven’t been married. The thing with a live-in is that you are married, except for the paperwork. The routine is exactly like that of a married couple. I mean what is marriage than two people sharing a home or life? When I was living-in, both our families knew and we were close to each other’s family. It was not any different from a marriage. Also, urban living in modern India is slowly changing the institutions, the values. But I believe in marriage because I believe in family. My strongest support and the reason why I am still rational and not flipping insane is because of my family. I want to be married and have a family."
For the unversed, Swara Bhasker was in a live-in relationship with her National award-winning writer-boyfriend, Himanshu Sharma, whom she had met during the making of the film, Raanjhanaa. Moreover, it was during the shoot of the film, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, that they had become each other’s confidantes. However, after dating each other for 5 years, they had parted ways. In an interview with the Pinkvilla, when Swara was asked about the reason behind her decision of breaking up with her beau, Himanshu, she had said:
“I think you just have to sort of deal with it. In our case, it was very unfortunate. I didn’t have or I still didn’t have a lot of anger that could have helped me deal with it. Nobody did anything bad, nobody did anything wrong, nobody cheated on anyone. It was not those typical things, it was unfortunate.”
On the professional front, Swara was last seen in the short film, Sheer Qorma.
