Swara Bhasker Slams Troll For Calling Husband, Fahad Ahmad 'Chhapri', Says 'Classist Trash...'

Actress and political activist, Swara Bhasker, is currently making headlines as she stars alongside her husband and politician, Fahad Ahmad, in the new celebrity reality show, Pati Patni Aur Panga, hosted by Sonali Bendre and Munawar Faruqui. The show explores the dynamics of real-life celebrity couples through fun games, candid conversations, and emotional moments. Alongside Swara and Fahad, the show features other couples like Hina Khan and Rocky Jaiswal, and Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla. However, amid the positive buzz around the show, Swara found herself clapping back at a deeply offensive online troll targeting her husband.

Troll targeted Swara Bhasker's husband, Fahad Ahmad with a casteist comment

Shortly after clips from Pati Patni Aur Panga surfaced on social media, a user on X (formerly Twitter) took a cheap shot at Swara’s husband, Fahad Ahmad, mocking his appearance and background. The user compared Swara to Parineeti Chopra, claiming both were using their husbands for PR. The tweet was laced with classist and casteist undertones and quickly gained attention, but not for the reason the user hoped. The troll wrote, “She took his Dongri ka chhapri husband to a reality show. Forget PR, her husband looked like a street vendor from Dongri.”

Swara Bhasker clapped back with a fierce response

Never the one to stay silent, and known for her bold demeanour, Swara Bhasker clapped back in no time. She called out the language used by the troll, educating them on the casteist origins of the term 'chhapri.' Swara’s bold response was widely appreciated across social media, with many applauding her for standing up to bigotry and for defending the dignity of all working-class individuals. In her response, she wrote:

“This twit who describes himself both as a proud Hindu and Ambedkarite does not seem to know that Chhapri is a casteist slang… a derogatory term used to describe a community that fixes ‘chhappars’ or thatched huts…Also, nothing wrong with being a street vendor from Dongri or anywhere, you casteist/classist trash-brain! #CasteistAlert.”

Fans online applauded Swara’s boldness

Swara’s fans and netizens flooded her comment section with support. Many called her response ‘powerful,’ ‘necessary,’ and ‘brave,’ especially in a digital age where it's extremely easy to target individuals. A user wrote, “Well said, Swara. Many people casually use casteist slurs without understanding their roots or implications,” another one wrote, “These brahmanwadis (not a caste slur though) have a habit of using casteist slurs Swara ji.”

However, regardless of support and appreciation, there remained a section of netizens who couldn’t grasp or didn’t want to understand the gravity of the situation and took sides with the troll or themselves stooped low to call Swara and Fahad more names. The troll who had left the original tweet to which Swara reacted left another comment saying, “ Sorry Swara!! I should not have called him Chapri, I should have called him Band Baja Wala!!”
