Tomorrow on June 02, 2019, India will celebrate National Cancer Survivors' Day to show our respect to the people who have fought the Big C in the most audacious manner. Many of you are aware that a few of our favourite Bollywood celebrities have been diagnosed with cancer in the past year. While all of them have come out of it now, but their battles aren't over. For having survived the treatment, they know what it means to be there and hence, their new battle is to create as much awareness as possible among the masses. Tahira Kashyap, the writer, director and Ayushmann Khurrana's wife, is one of such Bollywood celebrities who have come out cancer with full valour. It was in September 2018 when Tahira Kashyap had shared with the world that she was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) in her right breast. And since then, she has become an epitome of what we call power-woman!
Tahira Kashyap has been quite vocal about her fight with cancer over the past few months. During a talk with the IANS recently, Tahira shared about the taboo associated with cancer and how many people perceive that it should not be talked about. She was quoted as saying, "No one in my immediate environment judged me. Of course, I was also asked by a couple of my close relatives... they said that the news should remain within the confines of a family circle. I thought that maybe that's the right protocol. On the other hand, my doctor told me about so many cases... women who despite getting a few symptoms refuse to get themselves examined because of so much of humiliation associated with it. Some even feel guilty."
Tahira Kashyap also added that she wants to spread the message of self-love and how cancer should not let anyone define themselves. She shared, "My basic has always been... creating awareness about early breast cancer detection and self-love. If you are suffering from cancer, do not let it define you. You are bigger than the disease. Be the stronger person that you always have been. I wanted to remove the stigma and taboo associated with cancer. No matter what life throws at you, take it in your stride and have immense love for yourself because it is you who are putting up the fight and you are no less than a warrior."
Apart from her cancer struggle, Tahira Kashyap also makes it to the headlines often owing to her personal life. For instance, recently, in an interview with SpotboyE, Tahira Kashyap talked about the rough patch in her marriage with Article 15 actor, Ayushmann Khurrana. She had said, “I had a problem with him kissing on screen. I felt like a big, huge fat whale sitting at home. When you are pregnant your hormones also go up and down. Here this boy is looking at his youngest youth best and he is romancing women and what is this onscreen kiss! We both were very young. He didn’t have the time and patience to take me along and I didn’t have the patience to understand. There was this disconnect that we were not there for each other to take each other along in that journey. Somewhere he knew that she doesn’t mean mad. I also knew he wasn’t cheating. I had to evolve as a person to understand what art is.” (You May Like: Shah Rukh Khan's Sister Makes A Rare Appearance In This Family Picture From AbRam Khan's Birthday)

She had further stated, “I had given up many times but he did not. He didn’t use to give up but he also didn’t makeup... We both have really evolved as artists, as companions and we have seen a journey including cancer being a part of it. Where we are right now, it is at its strongest best.”
Earlier, in an interview with Anupama Chopra, Tahira had also talked about her insecurities when Ayushmann had entered Bollywood in the year 2012. She had candidly confessed, “I was this crazy, insecure pregnant person when Vicky Donor happened and that was the worst phase for both of us. I think both of us were very immature. He didn’t have the maturity to kind of hold my hand and tell me it’s ok, especially, when I am crazy on my hormones because I was pregnant at the time and I also didn’t have the maturity to just take it easy and know this thing will get over.”
She had further added, “Both of us lacked maturity. Then you also feel like a whale and considering your husband is with beautiful women all around and you don’t come from that background. Even if you have the maturity, the passion and you understand art, you don’t have the maturity to deal with the frills that come along.” (Suggested Read: Kareena Kapoor On Her Television Debut In 'DID', Says She Wants To Go Back Home Before Taimur Sleeps)
