Is Tanishaa Mukerji Pro-Nepotism? Kajol's Sister Says Outsiders In Bollywood 'Come With No Loyalty'

Actress, Tanishaa Mukerji, known for her work in Hindi and South Indian-language movies, as well as Indian television, is currently going viral for her comments on her life, career, and the Indian film industry. For those unversed, she is the younger sister of Bollywood actress, Kajol and the daughter of veteran actress, Tanuja. The actress recently spoke out about the pervasive issue of nepotism in Bollywood and shared her stance on the matter. She made some debatable remarks in an attempt to demonstrate her genuine affection for the industry.

Tanishaa Mukerji's comment on Bollywood bashing

In a recent podcast chat with Pinkvilla, Tanishaa Mukerji shared her perspective on Bollywood bashing. She expressed bewilderment regarding the reason for the hate towards the products of nepotism in Bollywood. She referred to herself as a 'Bollywood baby' and expressed her love and pride in belonging to a prominent film family. She stated that she didn't discriminate against actors based on whether they were born into the film fraternity or came from outside. Mentioning that she loves 'nepo babies', she said:

"I'm a Bollywood baby. I love my industry, I love my film industry, I love the people coming into my film fraternity, I love the people who are born in this fraternity, I love my nepo babies, if you want to call them that, I love them, and I want to know why we are being bashed".

Tanishaa Mukerji's comment on whether it is tougher being an insider or an outsider in the film industry

Tanishaa believes that individuals from film families tend to think more about the industry than their individual careers. According to her, they consider 'giving to' and 'growing the industry'. The actress claimed that, although everyone aspires to achieve a certain level of success in the industry, insiders bear a greater responsibility to contribute to the industry's overall betterment. Mentioning that they are not here to simply 'take from the industry', Tanishaa said:

"You're not somebody who's here to take from the film industry. Yes, you want to be an actor, you want to be a director, you want to be a producer in this film industry, but you will always think about giving to the film industry. It is about growing the industry."

Tanishaa Mukerji's feels Bollywood outsiders lack loyalty towards the industry

Although Tanishaa tried to stay as respectful as possible while sharing her thoughts on the insider vs outsider debate, one particular remark raised eyebrows. She made the explosive comment that Bollywood outsiders 'come with no loyalty' towards the industry. As per her, outsiders might develop loyalty and begin thinking about giving back to the industry only if their next generation becomes part of the fraternity as well. Her exact words were:

"And somewhere I feel people who come from outside, they come with no loyalty to our film industry. They come to take. Maybe if they come second generation, and then they have children and their children want to be a part of the film industry then they'll think of giving back, about making for the industry."

Tanishaa Mukerji cited examples to support her point

Tanishaa referenced some big names in Bollywood to defend her industry roots, expressing frustration with the constant bashing of the industry. She cited the examples of Indian filmmaker, Rohit Shetty and her own brother-in-law and actor Ajay Devgn, as examples of industry insiders who look out for and give back to the film fraternity.
