Veteran actress, Tanuja raised her daughters, Kajol and Tanisha Mukerji single-handedly. She had to balance her life between her professional and personal commitments. This was because she had separated from her husband, Shomu Mukherjee. Tanishaa recently revealed how she missed her maa during her growing-up time and shared that if she had the chance, she would never let her mom work.
For the unversed, Kajol and Tanishaa were raised by their grandmother, Shobhna Samarth, a superstar at her time. During a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Tanishaa shared how she missed her mom's love and care while she was growing up. Tanujaa had earlier revealed she had to act not out of choice but due to a financial crunch in the family. After her separation, she had to look after her kids. Tanishaa now shared how she did not want her mom to be a working lady and emphasised that women should not work for five years after they have a child. In her words:
"I would say my mom was a working woman, but I wish she wasn’t. When I was born, my mother had to work to support our family. We didn’t have enough money then. My mom used to work in at least two to three shifts every day. I would never meet my mother but I would still sleep in her room to feel closer to her.”
One user wrote on the YouTube comments section that Tanishaa was not completely wrong, but she oversimplified things a lot. The user said, "She grew up mostly around women who were in charge." Others called her a strong woman while others felt her thoughts were well articulated and she sounded sensible.
Tanishaa, going ahead in the interview, revealed that only a mom had the potential to raise a child, and no one else could give the child what they really needed. She just felt that women should be home with their children because only a mother could do the same. Tanishaa revealed she was never an advocate of leaving your child and going to work concept. She said:
"I strongly feel that if you want to have a child, give that child the first five years of your life. Then do whatever you want. I am very clingy with my mom. It is because of the feeling of being left, so whenever I had her around me, I wouldn’t leave her alone. I still cling to my mummy.”

Tanuja was one of the top actresses of the 60s and 70s. She was always dedicated to her craft. Earlier during an interview with the Screen, Tanishaa shared how it was not easy for her single mother to manage everything. She shared:
“It’s not easy for single mothers. They have to put food on the table and they have to take care of the baby. Luckily, for her, we lived in a joint family. We were brought up by our grandmother and great grandmother, So we had three generations bringing us up.”
Tanishaa also shared she has had a very normal film family. Her mom is a normal person like a typical Indian mother who knew to bring up her children and instill the right values.
What do you think of Tanishaa Mukerji's views on not wanting her mom, Tanuja to work?
