Tanuj Virwani faced one of the scariest moments of his life after he was robbed. However, the bigger swing came when he realised that the attacker was none other than his spot boy of 10 years. Now, the actor and model has reacted to the same and revealed how the incident has impacted him and his trust.
Tanuj Virwani recalled the revelation of being robbed by his spot boy as a deeply upsetting moment for him. He added that he was like family to him and had been with him since the Inside Edge days. The actor shared that he would eat, live and travel with them. Tanuj treated him as an equal, making this even more hurtful.
In the same conversation, Tanuj revealed that initially, random teams would go missing, from jackets to expensive watches. However, they realised that things were off when they came back from a trip to the United Kingdom and found some currency missing. He added that they are not a family that keeps things under lock and key, as there was a basic sense of trust. He was quoted as saying:
"It started with a jacket, then a couple of my dad’s expensive watches. We had just come back from a trip to the UK, and some of the currency we brought back went missing too. We’re not the kind of family that locks things up at home. There’s always been a basic sense of trust."
Tanuj revealed that the situation only got worse once he learnt that the spot boy stole from them to support his drinking addiction. He added that the betrayal took away the sense of security from their home, as they live in a stand-alone bungalow in Juhu and not a gated community. Tanuj shared that they read about such incidents in the news all the time, and being the victim of such a crime is completely different. He was quoted as saying:
"It's not just the material loss, it's the betrayal. I have a baby daughter, my wife, and my mother—all living in this house. You can't have someone under the influence, stealing things, around your family. It’s frightening. It does feel like a personal loss. I'm an only child, and I tend to form close bonds. He travelled with me everywhere—London, Singapore, Dubai, Bangkok. I got his passport made. I've always treated him with respect and affection. I'm more upset and let down than I am angry."
In the same conversation, Tanju explained that while he was out for work, his father coordinated with law enforcement. He revealed that they found foreign currency, perfumes, and other stolen items in his bag. However, the watches haven't been recovered. The spot boy is admitting to things and is currently under police custody being interrogated. Nonetheless, despite what happened, Tanuj shared that they have not yet made the decision to bring extra security. He was quoted as saying:

"We’re a very normal, middle-class-rooted family. We don't have private security. We just have to be more cautious going forward. When we do hire new staff, it has to be the right fit—someone trustworthy. I don’t want a quick-fix replacement who becomes a bigger problem. We’ll be okay. But this has definitely been a rough patch."
