In the career span of 25 years, ace designer, Tarun Tahiliani has decked up many brides. He is known for creating the prettiest ensembles for brides and bridesmaids. However, not many know that his own wedding, 42 years ago, was nothing less than a dream. His wife, Sailaja Tahiliani had ditched the traditional red lehenga and had opted for an ivory saree.
In January 2022, Tarun Tahiliani's son, Jahan Tahiliani got married to the love of his life, Ananya Bhandare. His bride had left everyone in awe by donning a gorgeous lehenga from her father-in-law's designer label. The pictures and videos of Jahan and Ananya's intimate wedding have been making rounds on the internet.
Tarun Tahiliani and his wife, Sailaja had taken the saath pheras in a simple wedding in December 1985. At the age of 22, Tarun started his marital journey. Their wedding wasn't filled with a lot of glam like the ones these days. Tarun had donned a cream-coloured kurta with churidaar. His look was completed with a doshala and a red-hued turban.
In an interview with the Vogue, Tarun recalled his love story. The designer shared that when he met his wife, Sal, the world was different and simple. He had met her while studying at the University of Pennsylvania. He shared:
"I met her while studying at University of Pennsylvania. She knew one of my closest friends, who was in fact trying to set me up with another girlfriend of hers. But life and fate has its own way of taking charge. I proposed early on and we got married right after we both graduated."
Tarun Tahiliani's wife, Sailaja, who was an NRI, had never worn a lehenga in her life. So, for the wedding day, she had ditched the red lehenga and had opted for an ivory-hued silk saree. Her look was kept simple with a gold choker neckpiece, a traditional long chain and a matha patti. Talking about his wife's look, Tarun revealed that there was no makeup artist back then. He said:
"There were no makeup artists either. A set of friends helped out—The Ashok Hotel had a big Lakmé beauty parlour where Sal went to get her hair done. She chose a simple choti with two braids."
