Meet Tatiana Schlossberg's Husband, George Moran, Her Biggest Supporter Amid Cancer And Year To Live

Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of John F. Kennedy, is an environmental journalist and author. She has written for many publications. However, Tatiana's recent essay has been one of the most devastating ones. With an essay detailing her personal life, the 35-year-old revealed that she has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

With a rare mutation, Tatiana has been told by doctors that she has a year to live. Amid her many treatments and battle with blood cancer, her husband, George Moran, has been one of her biggest supporters. As Tatiana opened up about having a year to live, here's everything to know about her husband, George, and their family life with two little children.

Tatiana Schlossberg's husband, George Moran, is a physician, and they got married in 2017

Tatiana pursued a Bachelor's degree at Yale. This is where she met her now-husband, George Moran. He is a physician, a urologist to be specific. And the couple tied the knot on September 9, 2017. Interestingly, Tatiana was the first of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy's three grandchildren to tie the knot. Moreover, Tatiana and George married almost exactly 64 years after the 'John and Jacky' wedding. The couple exchanged their vows in Tatiana's family estate in Martha's Vineyard.

George Moran's family background

George was born and brought up in Greenwich, Connecticut. During the time of his wedding to Tatiana, he was still a medical student in Columbia, pursuing his 4th year. His mother, Mary Penniman, was the treasurer of the Natural Resources Defense Council's board. Meanwhile, George's father, Garrett Moran, is the founder of the NGO, Year Up in New York.

George Moran and Tatiana Schlossberg's family life with two little children amid her cancer diagnosis

In The New Yorker essay where Tatiana revealed her cancer diagnosis, she shared that after a few hours of giving birth to her and George's second child, doctors noticed an imbalance in her white blood cells. The doctors told her that it could be either related to pregnancy or leukemia. Against all hope, Tatiana was diagnosed with terminal cancer with a rare mutation called Inversion 3. The young mother shared that due to the rarity of the disease, she could not be cured with the usual treatments. When Tatiana went for CAR-T-cell therapy, the mother of two was told by doctors that she has less than a year to live.

With great sorrow, Tatiana expressed that she has come to terms with her diagnosis. Talking about their children, she wrote that her 3-year-old son, Edwin, will have faint memories of her as he grows up. But her daughter, who is just 18 months old, will not remember her. Tatiana also said that since starting her treatment soon after giving birth for the second time, she has never actually gotten the chance to really take care of her baby daughter. Tatiana was quoted as saying:

“My first thought was that my kids, whose faces live permanently on the inside of my eyelids, wouldn’t remember me. My son might have a few memories, but he’ll probably start confusing them with pictures he sees or stories he hears. I didn’t ever really get to take care of my daughter—I couldn’t change her diaper or give her a bath or feed her.”

Tatiana Schlossberg revealed how supportive George Moran has been while she battles her leukemia

In her essay, Tatiana shared about George's unwavering support for her. She said that her husband slept on the hospital floor and talked to doctors when she did not want to. Tatiana mentioned that he supported her even when she was medicated on steroids and would yell at him due to the mood swings. Circling back to how little time she has left, Tatiana expressed her regret that she would not be able to keep living the wonderful life she has with George. Tatiana wrote:

"He (George) would go home to put our kids to bed and come back to bring me dinner. I know that not everyone can be married to a doctor, but, if you can, it’s a very good idea. He is perfect, and I feel so cheated and so sad that I don’t get to keep living the wonderful life I had with this kind, funny, handsome genius I managed to find."

We pray for Tatiana Schlossberg and wish her family strength.
