'Thanal' Is Releasing On OTT, Where To Watch Atharvaa Murali Starrer Action Thriller?

Atharvaa Murali’s latest film, directed by Ravindera Madhava, is all set to release on OTT. The Tamil action film hit theaters on September 12, 2025, and marks the debut of Atharvaa as the antagonist. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video on October 17. Originally, Thanal had received mixed reviews at its release. The film is now available to stream on OTT.

What’s the story of Thanal?

'Akhil' (Atharvaa) is in love with a woman named 'Anu' (Lavanya), but her father opposes their relationship because 'Akhil' is jobless. He joins the police force along with his friends at the same station. Atharvaa, who played the character of a police officer, encounters a criminal with his six newly recruited teammates. Ashwin Kakumanu is introduced as the villain, who reveals that he is a former army man. 

Ashwin’s character has a lifetime of suffering, which embarks on a vengeful plot against the police officers who killed a gang of bank robbers in a 2016 encounter, which also included his brother. Standing in his way is a police constable whose own past pain has transformed him into a dutiful son. Before the release of the movie, the director of the action thriller, Ravindra Madhava, narrated its plot. He said the story follows a painful event that turns one person into a hero and the other into a villain, exploring what happens when they meet each other.

With 'Anu' (Lavanya) taken as leverage, the revenge circles back to a mining land grab and police complicity. The Tamil action-packed thriller opened to a modest worldwide collection of Rs 0.27 crore and went on to earn an estimated Rs 1.60 crore over 19 days in cinemas. While fans appreciated Atharvaa Murali’s performance, critics pointed out many flaws in the film’s narrative.

When is Thanal releasing?

Thanal was released originally on October 17, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video. The cinematographer, Sakti Saravana, took to his Instagram handle to share the news. He shared the update along with a poster of the film that shows both the lead actors, Atharvaa Murali and Ashwin Kakumanu, in a monochromatic frame.

Atharvaa Murali, co-starring Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan, has been leading Thanal. The film features Lavanya Tripathi and Ashwin Kakumanu. Besides them, the film features Shah Ra, Barani, Dileepan, Selva, Azhagam Perumal, Bose Venkat, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, Yogi Babu, and others in key roles. 

Atharvaa Murali’s upcoming film

Atharvaa Murali is currently filming for the period political drama Parasakthi, co-starring Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film is based on true events that took place in Tamil Nadu in 1965. With Sreeleela playing the female lead, the film is slated for a January 14, 2026, release, coinciding with Pongal.

Lavanya Tripathi's upcoming movies include Sathi Leelavathi and Tunnel. Thanal was the latest release after giving birth. Lavanya Tripathi and her husband, Varun Tej, had a baby boy named Vaayuv Tej Konidela on September 10, 2025. They announced his name on October 2, 2025, explaining that it means "unstoppable force, devotion, courage, and spiritual radiance". The couple shared the news through social media, with Varun Tej posting a greyscale picture of them with their newborn.
