The Boys Season 5 will be the final chapter in the American satirical superhero television series. The first series in the franchise was based on the comic book series of the same name, written by Garth Ennis and Darick. Now, the show is all set to premiere its final season on Amazon Prime Video on April 8, 2026 (ET).
Ahead of The Boys Season 5 premiere on Wednesday, the first reviews have arrived online, and they are unanimous in their praise. Amazon Prime Video's megahit superhero series, based on the comic of the same name, has been one of the most talked-about shows of the past decade. Now, the upcoming season is being anticipated to be the best the makers have offered so far. So, without any further ado, let's find out what the early reviews have been saying.
The Boys Season 5 is all set to premiere on April 8, 2026 and will run weekly until May 20, 2026. The season will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and follows 'Homelander' (Antony Starr) as he takes control over America, fascist terror, imprisoning dissenters in Freedom Camps. 'Butcher' (Karl Urban), 'Hughie' (Jack Quaid), 'Annie' (Erin Moriarty) and 'The Boys' will join forces in a desperate resistance against insurmountable odds to stop his tyrannical rule, as he plans to use the only virus capable of killing 'Supes' to wipe out the entire species.
The Boys has been an instant hit among viewers ever since it aired in 2019. Created by Eric Kripke, the series has been the top superhero show and among the best in recent years. Coming to the final season of The Boys, it begins with 'Butcher' and 'Annie' planning to rescue the rest of the 'Boys' from the facility where they were being held captive. Meanwhile, we also see 'Homelander' demanding respect from the American people. The first two episodes set to release on April 8, 2026 (ET) are being called a wild and thrilling ride. The stakes are higher than ever as nobody is safe, neither the 'Boys' nor the 'Supes'.
However, after four seasons, 'Billy Butcher' has finally devised an extremely dreadful plan. His plan is deadly enough to force the 'Supes' to finally run for their lives, and 'Homelander' is definitely not amused. The humour, the gore and the action perfectly complement the strong writing, and the end of season 5 episode 2 will keep you hooked for what's to follow. However, while not much has been revealed about the future episodes, one thing is for sure: fans will see many of their beloved characters bite the dust, and it won't be easy to watch.

The Boys Season 5 features an excellent lineup, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Jensen Ackles, all returning from prior seasons. However, there is a special entry in Season 5: Daveed Diggs. Speaking of the performances, Karl and Anthony have once again proven themselves to be the MVPs of The Boys.
Their characters are like the two sides of the coin, absolute scene stealers; the two actors absolutely nail their roles. Jack Quaid, on the other hand, is the heart of the show. His character is the sole good left in this world, and no matter what, he holds on to the goodness in his heart and perhaps serves as the voice of reason for the audience.
The critics have been left impressed by how phenomenal the final chapter has been so far. Jeremy Mathai from Slashfilm has also been heaping praises for The Boys' first two episodes, saying, "While the main storyline occasionally relies too much on contrivances, it soars every time it’s driven by an intricate web of interpersonal drama and conflicting motivations. The handheld action is as engaging and chaotic as fans have come to expect. On a technical level, the blend of visual and gruesome practical effects is unrivalled on the small screen." Giovanni Lago of Next Best Picture hailed the show and stated:
"The Boys, for all of its pointed commentary and at the end of its massive run, has finally run out of steam…That said, the series remains immensely watchable. What ultimately holds The Boys back from fully landing the plane is the diminishing comedic impact of its final season…what once felt sharp now feels blunt, making the juvenile elements more eye-rolling than effective. If anything, the numerous spinoffs, loosely tied to this fifth season, feel like a better avenue for exploring new ideas and stories in a universe that has grown limited within the boundaries this series established."
