Wedding matrimonial sites have been responsible for bringing two people together, who did not even know each other, but were destined to be soulmates. Breaking the barriers of age, distance and religion, it brings together like-minded people, who instantly click and start a beautiful journey of love and commitment together.
Social media too plays a very important role here. It can be addictive and dangerous at many levels, but it can also be responsible for creating ‘happily ever after’ stories. And, one such ‘happily ever after’ is that of our featured couple for this week, Sharmistha Deb and Rajat Chatterjee.

Sharmistha’s mother had created an online account for her on a matrimonial site that she was completely unaware of. It was this account that helped in bringing this couple together. Totally unknown to each other, living continents apart (she in India and he in Australia), true love found its way when Rajat’s friend happened to show him Sharmistha’s picture on Facebook saying that:
“This is the girl I might get married to as I have sent her a request on a matrimony site.”
Talk about love at first sight! Rajat, who owns a security firm in Australia, madly fell in love with Sharmistha, a marketing specialist with a passion for music, after just seeing a picture of hers. He looked her up on Facebook and sent her a message. Not knowing this stranger, Sharmistha obviously chose to ignore it. But, after repeatedly receiving messages from the same person, Sharmistha decided to respond back and then there was no looking back. What started as casual chatting on the messenger soon turned into long calls over the phone. The two very soon grew really fond of each other, and when they finally met after five months, love had already taken its course. As Sharmistha puts it:
“Though we were 5866 miles away (Hyderabad - Brisbane), we had developed an amazing relationship in no time and used to talk for 6-7 hours/day on an average. We finally met after 5 months of long distance relationship; and needless to say we were intensely in love even before we had met.”

The wedding followed soon after and in a gap of just eight months from the engagement, it was time for the two lovebirds to bond in the shackles of holy matrimony on December 15, 2015.
The wedding celebrations were a three-day affair starting with the haldi ceremony on the morning of December 14.
