The Summer I Turned Pretty is an American coming-of-age romantic drama created by Jenny Han for the OTT giant, Amazon Prime Video. The show is based on the novel trilogy by the same name. The show first premiered on June 17, 2022, and is now set to return for its third season. Ahead of the much-awaited release, the show's cast has shared about the connection the series shares with the much-loved singer, Taylor Swift and her music.

Ahead of the premiere of Amazon Prime Video's much-loved show, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Lola Tung, Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno reflected on how Taylor Swift's music became the heartbeat of the show. Based on Jenny's novels, the series has made Taylor Swift's music a character in its own right. The makers have cleverly used the music maestro's tracks to show the series' central themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery.

In a recent interview, the lead cast shared their views on the significance of Taylor Swift's music in the storytelling of The Summer I Turned Pretty and revealed their favourite needle drops. In the same conversation, the stars also gave fans a glimpse into the creative process behind the show's soundtrack. Commenting on the seamless fusion of Taylor's music into the show, the lead of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Lola Tung, was the first to share her views.

Lola Tung, who essays the lead in The Summer I Turned Pretty, 'Belly', shared that Taylor Swift is an incredible storyteller. She added that she and Jenny had that in common, making her the perfect fit for the show. She revealed that Jennu might also have a personal connection with the singer. Lola was quoted as saying:

"She's an incredible storyteller, just like Jenny. So it felt very fitting. I think Jenny has a personal connection. When she was writing a lot of the books, she was listening to some of this music, like The Way I Loved You. So, for her, she’s had these in mind for so long."

Lola further added that not all of Taylor Swift's albums were out at the time Jenny Han wrote the series, but she felt like the music definitely helped shape the world of The Summer I Turned Pretty. However, she shared that The Way I Loved You was a classic in the first two seasons and stated:

"Obviously, not all of these albums were out yet, but it helped her shape the world. There are so many incredible needle drops. From the first two seasons, The Way I Loved You is a classic."

Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno agree with Lola Tung's assessment 

Christopher Briney agreed with Lola Tung, sharing that Taylor's music seems 'very thoroughly planned and thought out, as it's part of the vision.' Gavin Casalegno further weighed in, praising Jenny Han's ability to create the perfect soundtrack. She was quoted as saying:

"I think Jenny does a great job of finding the perfect music for the world. Like with all of Taylor’s music, I think she really does a deep dive into what’s going to fit the world and the feel of all these things. We don’t even know all the songs that are going to be in the next season."
