'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' Trailer Review, Who Is The New Villain In 'Mario's' Space Adventure?

We come bearing good news for all 'Super Mario' lovers as the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie just dropped. The reveal for this Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal collaboration was announced this Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a Nintendo Direct livestream. Owing to the event, fans were given a first look at the characters, voice cast, and the exciting cosmic adventure awaiting them in this upcoming film. In case you missed the live stream, we have all the details for you to check out and see if the movie will be something worth watching.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer breakdown

The trailer starts with our favourite characters, 'Mario' and 'Luigi', taunting a super small 'Bowser'. He has apparently remained small and not grown in size at all since the end of the previous movie, after having eaten a 'Mini Mushroom'. The real action in the trailer only begins after 'Bowser' faces rejection from 'Mario' upon drawing a romantic portrait of himself and his beloved 'Princess Peach'.

The Super Mario GalaxyFollowing this, 'Mario' and 'Peach' spot several shooting stars in the sky and decide to explore the galaxy with 'Luigi' and 'Toad'. At this point, it becomes clear that the story is inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy video game, especially when the characters start travelling across multiple planets. Among the planets, the ones that caught our eyes include a planet made entirely out of water, and another one featuring inverted pyramids and desert scenes, something which we also saw in Super Mario Odyssey.

The Super Mario GalaxyThe trailer also teases some serious action with the battles and encounters that the characters will have. What will be worth watching is what happens when 'Mario' and friends come face-to-face with 'Bowser's' son, 'Bowser Jr.', and the celestial princess, 'Rosalina'.

Introducing the voice cast and creative team for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Both Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who directed the first film, The Super Mario Bros, are returning to direct the upcoming sequel, continuing their brilliant partnership. The screenplay writer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also remains the same, as Matthew Fogel makes his comeback.

The Super Mario GalaxyComing to the voice cast, Chris Pratt returns as 'Mario', Anya Taylor-Joy as 'Princess Peach', Jack Black as 'Bowser', Keegan-Michael Key as 'Toad', and Charlie Day as 'Luigi'. The unchanged cast will make the sequel more enjoyable to viewers who have watched the first movie. However, due to the introduction of new characters, we will also meet new voice actors joining the film’s returning cast. Academy Award-winning actress, Brie Larson, will lend her voice to 'Rosalina', while Benny Safdie is set to voice 'Bowser's' son, 'Bowser Jr'. Their characters will definitely give the film an interesting touch, as we have already seen from the trailer.
