Is the film, The Taj Story based on true incidents?

As mentioned in the recently released trailer of the film, The Taj Story, the makers mention that the film is inspired by true events. It does not appear to be based on confirmed facts or events, but it explores the 'what-if' trajectory. In September 2025, the makers faced backlash from fans, when they released the poster of the film, showing Paresh Rawal lifting the dome of Taj Mahal, only to reveal a statue of Lord Shiva. After the backlash, Paresh Rawal issued a statement on his X handle, which said:

"The makers of the film 'The Taj Story' clarify that the movie does not deal with any religious matters, nor does it claim that a Shiv temple resides within the Taj Mahal. It focuses solely on historical facts. We would kindly request you to watch the film and form your own opinion."
