You might have seen many bridal gowns, but not something quite like the one that our gorgeous bride donned for her wedding. Sylvia Santhilakshmi Charles grew up in the States but often visited India, her mother’s birthplace and hometown when she was a child.
And, when she decided to tie the knot with her Jewish boyfriend Aaron Ellis Royston, she could not think of any place better than India. Her dream to have a wedding amidst her strong cultural roots was turned into a reality at the Kumarakom Lake Resort in Kerala.

Not only she, but her fiancé Aaron too who happens to be a fun-loving, culture freak and travel junkie was thrilled by this idea. So, they booked the beautiful resort for a three-day December weekend wedding, and invited about a 150 guests from the States, as well as about a 100-odd from India.

But, the real show stealer of the wedding was neither the breathtaking location, nor the mix of cultures at the event. It was most definitely the gorgeous wedding gown designed by Claire Pettibone that Sylvia chose to wear for the first day celebrations that was a western style ceremony followed by dinner.
Different from the traditional white gown, she said:
“I wanted an American gown that still had an Indian feel, and wouldn't feel out of place among the palm trees, South Indian wood and carvings, and that would fit with the colourful vibes of South India.”

So, she decided to try on some pieces at the Claire Pettibone’s boutique, but did not actually like any that much. But finally, one trunk show later, Sylvia saw the designer’s new Notre Dame dress, and knew it was made for her. She added:
“I was enthralled by the intricacies of the back detail, the colourful beading, the lace. I always wanted to be different than the norm during my wedding week—and a black and blue dress was certainly different!"
The dress also matched her personality and made her feel divine. She quoted:
“The back detailing with the sheer back made me feel sexy but classy, while the drape of the sleeves made me feel like a queen.”
All the others at the wedding were asked to wear white so that her gown would stand out even more.
