Tiger Woods' History Of Car Accidents Leading To 2017 Arrest And Latest 2026 Rollover Crash

Tiger Woods was involved in another serious car crash on March 27, 2026, in Jupiter Island, Florida, and this time, the situation turned extremely serious. Local police confirmed the crash was a rollover, and he was later taken into custody after officers noticed signs of impairment. He did not agree to a urine test, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, who shared details during a press conference. While his current physical condition has not been fully shared yet, this moment has once again brought attention to a long and painful history of crashes, injuries, and recovery that has been a big part of Woods’ life over the years.

Tiger Woods' crash timeline from the 2009 incident to 2017 arrest and legal trouble

Tiger Woods’ troubles with car incidents go back many years, and each one has told a different story about his life at that moment. Back in November 2009, Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree near his home in Windermere, Florida. It happened late at night, and even though the crash looked serious, he did not suffer major injuries. Police later cited him for careless driving.

That incident became a huge public story, not just because of the crash, but because it opened the door to many personal issues he was dealing with at the time. Years later, in May 2017, another troubling moment came. Police found Woods asleep inside his car on the side of the road. His vehicle showed some damage, and he looked confused when officers woke him up. A toxicology report later revealed that several prescription medications were in his system, including Vicodin. He was arrested and charged with DUI.

One month later, in June 2017, Woods took a step forward and entered a clinic to get help. He shared that he wanted to better manage his medications for back pain and sleep issues. He later accepted a plea deal, where the DUI charge was dropped, and he pleaded guilty to reckless driving instead. At that time, Tiger Woods expressed clearly:

“I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications.”

The most serious crash of Tiger Woods’ life came in February 2021 in Southern California. His car lost control, hit a road sign, crossed the divider, struck a tree, and rolled over before stopping on the side of the road. It was a violent accident that left him with severe injuries. Doctors later shared that his right leg suffered major damage. His tibia and fibula bones were broken into multiple pieces and even broke through the skin. He had to go through emergency surgery immediately. There were also injuries to his ankle and foot. At one point, doctors even considered amputation because of how bad the damage was. Woods later opened up about that pain and recovery, explaining:

“This has been an entirely different animal. I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.”

Tiger Woods' recovery took months. He went through multiple rehab sessions just to walk again. Even after that, the injuries stayed with him. In December 2021, he had another back procedure to deal with nerve pain. Then, in April 2023, he underwent surgery for post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle, which was directly linked to the 2021 crash.

The physical challenges did not stop there. In March 2025, Woods had surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. Later that same year, in October 2025, he underwent a lumbar disc replacement surgery to deal with ongoing back problems. Now, after the latest 2026 crash in Florida, questions are again being raised about both his health and his future.
