The Silsila of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha still revolves like a mystery in everyone’s mind. Their controversial affair dominated B-town in the late seventies. However, the ex-flames still rule the headlines whenever they are spotted together at a particular event. For the unversed, it was after three years of his wedding when Amitabh’s name was linked to the vivacious Rekha.
Unlike his other linkups, Amitabh’s affair with Rekha was one of the most scandalous ones, as it even impacted his marriage with Jaya Bachchan. Though Rekha got married later to a businessman, Mukesh Agarwal, he committed suicide, leaving her alone again. In many throwback interviews, Rekha had confessed her love for Amitabh, but he has always maintained silence on the same, and even decades later, their relationship is still under media scrutiny.

It was in 2013 when a picture of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha went viral on social media. It so happened that on a domestic flight, Amitabh Bachchan was approached by a pilot for a picture. However, what caught everyone’s attention was Rekha, who was spotted sitting behind him. As soon as the picture went viral, people went berserk and multiple questions were raised about their relationship.
However, a source close to Mr Bachchan reacted to the viral picture and called it a mere coincidence. Elaborating on the same, the source said:
“Amitji was not aware of the other passengers on board. There were many Bollywood personalities travelling to Chennai for a celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema. It is a sheer coincidence that they ended up on the same flight. If someone is trying to suggest a rendezvous here, it is ridiculous. Because if that were the case, they would ensure they weren’t on the same flight.”
During Gautam Rajadhyaksha's book launch in 2010, Rekha bumped into Jaya Bachchan. Not only were they spotted together, the yesteryear actresses also hugged and chatted with each other. This left many onlookers amazed as it was reported that Rekha and Jaya’s relationship soured after the former’s linkup rumours with Amitabh Bachchan.
In 2009, during the 54th Filmfare Awards, Rekha was seen exchanging pleasantries with the Bachchan bahu, Aishwarya Rai. As the two ladies greeted each other, Big B, who was also seen in the frame, was seen rushing away, and Rekha couldn’t take her eyes off him. At the same event, another incident which caught attention was Abhishek Bachchan getting up from his seat to greet Rekha. Mr Bachchan, who was seated next to Aishwarya, was seen looking at Abhishek’s gestures towards Rekha.

In one of the rarest of rare moments, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha came face to face at the 11th Annual Max Stardust Awards. Amitabh was seen along with his film, Black’s co-stars Rani Mukerji and child actor Ayesha Kapoor. Rekha, too, turned up for the event in her regalia. The two ex-lovebirds exchanged glances, and Rekha was also seen greeting Ayesha, while Rani smiled at them.
The unthinkable happened during the 20th Annual Like Ok Screen Awards in 2014 when Amitabh Bachchan acknowledged Rekha’s presence in public. It so happened that the diva was already seated when Big B arrived at the venue with Jaya Bachchan. As the organizers led Mr Bachchan to his seat, the veteran actor greeted everyone sitting in the front row, and Rekha happened to be one of them.
Rekha, on the other hand, was seen blushing at Mr Bachchan’s gesture. Not just Mr Bachchan, but Jaya Bachchan too shook hands with Rekha at the event. The happy moment made headlines the next day, and pictures and videos from the event went viral too.

During the Star Screen Awards in 2016, Rekha and Jaya’s camaraderie caught attention. When Amitabh Bachchan’s name was called to receive an award, Rekha ran up to Jaya to congratulate her, and the two hugged each other. They chatted for a brief moment and sat together. Not just this, the actresses were also seen cheering for their man, Amitabh Bachchan when he received the award.
Speculations about Rekha and Amitabh’s affair had started on the sets of the film, Do Anjane, and it was one of the most controversial affairs of that time. It is even said that Yash Chopra’s film, Silsila was literally the on-screen portrayal of Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha’s love triangle. Silsila was the last film, in which Amitabh and Rekha were seen together. It is also speculated that Amitabh had told his producers that he would not work with her.
