Tom Cruise has dazzled the world as one of the most popular Hollywood stars. With a successful career spanning over four decades, the star has given innumerable blockbusters and hits. Now, he is known for his older, rugged handsomeness, but during the early 2000s, Tom Cruise had many women swooning over his cute look and boyish smile. Even though he has reigned as a heart-throb for many years, the actor's love life has been a journey wrecked with heartbreaks.
Tom Cruise has been married three times, to high-profile actresses. But all of them ended in divorces and stirred drama with the media. He also had relationships with his co-stars, but those ended with break-ups as well. And in the centre of all these failed relationships, many have blamed the actor's ties with a cult called Scientology. Tom Cruise's alleged devotion to the cult affected not only his marriage but also his relationship with his daughter.
Tom Cruise started his acting career in Hollywood in the early 80s. He appeared as a part of the supporting cast in many films during this time but gradually started getting better roles because of his talents. Only after a few years, the actor made a name for himself as a superstar after Top Gun was released in 1986, starring him in the lead role. During this time, he reportedly went through four relationships. One of those four relationships was with the iconic pop singer of the 80s, Cher.
Tom Cruise and Cher had first met at a celebrity wedding, and then they both met at an event for dyslexic individuals. As both of them were dyslexic, they made a connection over this fact. Then they started dating, but it was not a long-term relationship. Cher and Tom Cruise remained friends, despite breaking off the relationship.
Tom Cruise married Mimi Rogers in 1987. The actress was part of a cult called Scientology, which claims to use a process called 'auditing' to relieve people of past traumas and neurological disorders. Mimi worked as an 'auditor' for the cult and reportedly introduced the actor to the church of Scientology. The couple divorced around 1990, but Tom Cruise became a devotee of the cult. He even claimed that his dyslexia was 'cured' by the methods prescribed by the cult.

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman met on the sets of one of their movie and started dating. The two got married in 1990 and were one of the most high-profile couples in Hollywood, with both of them at the top of their careers. The celebrity couple was also part of many popular movies after their marriage. They had even adopted two children. But nearly 11 years after their wedding, the couple's spokesperson released a statement and announced their separation.
Tom Cruise said that the reason for their divorce was 'irreconcilable differences'. Their adopted children chose to live with the actor and started to practice Scientology, like him. This has driven a wedge between Nicole Kidman and the two children. In a book written by an ex-Scientology follower and Tom Cruise's former friend, the writer revealed that their daughter, Isabella once called Nicole a 'suppressive person' who was an outsider to their religion.
Tom Cruise and actress, Penelope Cruz were in a relationship but broke up after three years of dating. Meanwhile, the actor also started drifting away from Scientology after his marriage to Nicole Kidman. Hence, as per sources, the leaders of the religion auditioned potential girlfriends who followed Scientology, for the actor. Reportedly, British-Iranian actress, Nazanin Boniadi was chosen for Tom Cruise.
After articles were published by Vanity Fair, revealing the alleged girlfriend auditions, the church of Scientology and Tom Cruise threatened to sue the media agency. However, Nazanin Boniadi herself has stated these events in a documentary on Scientology as well to the FBI for testimony. The actress also left the cult soon after her breakup with Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise made a very public announcement about his feelings for Katie Holmes. The actor jumped on the couch of The Oprah Winfrey Show and declared his feelings for the actress. The couple announced the birth of their daughter, Suri Holmes, in 2006 and got married in the same year. Many speculated that the marriage was arranged by the church of Scientology. Many leaders of the cult attended the wedding, which was a Scientology ceremony.
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were called Hollywood's super couple, and their fans started calling them 'TomKat'. However, the actress filed for divorce in 2012. As per Tom, she wanted to protect their daughter, Suri, from Scientology and hence broke off their marriage. He also revealed that Suri was no longer a follower of the religion.
Tom Cruise has been an ardent follower of Scientology and has reportedly tried to convert many other celebrities as well. He has also lobbied for the cult to be recognised as a religion in Europe. Many people also claim that the cult plays a huge role in the actor's life when it comes to romantic and personal relationships. They choose partners for him and also influence separations from these partners, reportedly. As per sources, Tom Cruise currently has no contact with his daughter, Suri, because of the orders given by the leaders of Scientology.
