Gauri Khan is a popular figure who has developed her separate identity from just being the wife of Shah Rukh Khan. She is an interior designer, producer and entrepreneur who made her mark in the industry. Whether it's about designing any celebrity home or starting a new venture, everything she does becomes the talk of the town. So, when the diva started her new restaurant, Torii, it immediately held the interest of food lovers. Later, when a vlogger claimed that it was using fake paneer in it's food, it again made headlines. However, recently, the restaurant's head chef, Stefan Gadit himself, came forward to explain how they always try to provide the best quality food to customers.
Torii's head chef, Stefan Gadit recently sat down for an interview with SCREEN and discussed the fake-paneer (cottage cheese) controversy which took place with their restaurant. He explained that when anyone raises questions over the service of their restaurant without any proof, it does impact their business. Stefan stated that they always ensure that they use the best quality ingredients and give an ideal food experience to their customers. Consequently, they felt it was necessary when a vlogger claimed that they served fake paneer. In his words:
"The quality, the ingredients, everything we provide is top-notch; we had nothing to worry about. We issued the statement so that people could know what is happening and how things are done."
Stefan explained that people try a lot of things related to food chemistry and food science, which requires four years to learn. So, the vlogger's approach of putting something over something to test the quality of their restaurant's paneer isn't conclusive. The chef understood that the person didn't have any wrong intentions and simply wanted to check. However, it turned out into something different.
In the same video, Torii's head chef, Stefan Gadit, was asked if the fake paneer controversy had negatively affected him or the restaurant. He shared that in contrast to the expectation, the whole incident had increased their restaurant's business. Moreover, he got followers on his social media, highlighting how the fake controversy worked in their favour. Sharing the results, he said:
"It increased our business, and I got more than 20-30 followers on Instagram, so that was a blessing in disguise, I would say."
It all started when a YouTuber named, Sarthak Sachdeva went to multiple celebrity restaurants, including Torii, to test their paneer. Among others, he claimed that Torii served fake paneer, which raised eyebrows. However, later, the restaurant released a statement to explain the details of the matter. They shared that the iodine test done by Sarthak could only determine the presence of starch and not the quality of paneer. Consequently, since their product contained soy, the result reflected nothing else. Later, renowned chef, Vikas agreed with Torri's statement, and Sarthak deleted his video.
