Tourist Family, the upcoming Tamil film directed by Abishan Jeevinth, is all set to hit the screens on May 1, 2025. During the pre-release of the film, a surprise proposal from the young director, Abishan Jeevinth to his childhood friend, Akhila Ilangovan, steals the spotlight. Tourist Family, a comedy-drama, is the directorial debut of Abishan. The emotional moment created by the young director at the pre-release event stunned everyone present at the event.
During the promotion of the film, Tourist Family, Abishan Jeevinth shared how his mother supported him during his tough phase. He then introduced his childhood friend, Akhila Ilangovan, who is his pillar of strength. The Tourist Family director went on to say how Akhila was there beside him whenever he felt weak. Then, the young director proposed to Akhila for marriage, taking everyone by surprise. Speaking of the same, Abishan said:
“I want to thank someone important in this program. Akila Ilangovan. I want to ask you something more than tell you. I have known you since sixth grade. We have been close friends since 10th grade. Will you marry me on October 31st? I love you so much. Many times when I was weak, she was there for me. She has been as important to me as my mother was to me in this situation."
The Tourist Family director, Abishan Jeevinth’s surprising proposal left his childhood friend, Akhila Ilangovan, in tears. The young director also got emotional when he recalled how Akhila stood beside him when he was going through a tough phase. Abishan’s mom was also emotional hearing her son’s revelations about how Akhila, too, supported her son when he was struggling in his career. Abishan’s proposal brought a smile to everyone’s face present at the promotional event of the film in Chennai.
The upcoming Tamil film, Tourist Family stars M. Sashikumar, Simran, Mithun Jai Sankar and Kamalesh in the lead roles. The comedy-drama is directed and written by Abishan Jeevinth. The film will show a Tamil family struggling to escape their homeland, Sri Lanka, after the economic downfall of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tourist Family is Abishan’s directorial debut with a star-studded cast. The film is jointly produced by Nazareth Pasilian, Magesh Raj Pasilian, and Yuvaraj Ganesan under the banners of Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment.
Simran, who will be seen playing 'Vasanthi Das', a mother of two sons, shared why she chose to work with debutant director Abishan Jeevinth. She shared that the debutant directors carry no ego and are totally dedicated to their work. Speaking of the same, in an interview with OTTplay, Simran said:

“I always believe the story is the master of any movie and debut directors are genuinely dedicated to the work without manipulation and compromise, also with zero ego. I enjoy working with young talent and will continue to. Abishan is also extremely talented and handled the whole movie so well. In fact, the whole team is amazing. Tourist Family is out and out entertaining cinema.”
In an interview with The New Indian Express, Sashikumar shared that he has experience with first-time directors and is fully aware of how a debutant director goes through intense responsibilities while making his first film. Sashikumar also shared that he had decided long ago to introduce new directors to the industry. Revealing Abishan to be his 11th debutant, Sashikumar said:
“Abishan is the 11th debutant I’m working with. I decided early on in my career that either through my production company or as an actor, I should introduce at least ten filmmakers into the industry. I’m glad that I’ve already crossed that number. I’ve already started working with a 12th debut director.”
