The sports season is in full swing, while the National Football League (NFL) has the world on the edge of its seats, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is not far behind. Nonetheless, today's NBL match between the Atlanta Hawks and the Brooklyn Nets took an intense turn after the former team's star player, Trae Young, had to exit the court mid-game. The unfortunate departure followed an injury Trae sustained during the match. And now, the team has provided an update on the young star's condition.

What happened to Trae Young?

Trae Young, who plays as the point guard for the Atlanta Hawks, had to leave the game unfinished. According to reports, Trae faced a severe knee sprain, which led to him being called off the court. It was during the match between the Hawks and the Brooklyn Nets on the night of October 29, 2025 (ET) that the point guard injured his knee. The four-time All-Star was hurt in the first quarter when teammate, Mouhamed Gueye fell into his right leg.

Trae Young grabbed at the leg immediately with both hands. He was seen on the broadcast conversing with head coach, Quin Snyder. Trae attempted to play again. However, no more than 17 seconds later, he was seen heading back to the locker room. He was ruled out for the game with what the Hawks called a "right knee sprain." The Hawks faced increased expectations this season but entered the October 29, 2025 (ET) game at 1-3.

How is Trae Young doing now?

According to reports, Trae Young will have an MRI on October 30, 2025 (ET) to determine the severity of the injury. The update was shared with the media houses by NBA insider Chris Haynes. So, as fans wait to see if Trae will return in the next match, they send their well-wishes to the player and his team.

Several Atlanta Hawks players are benched because of their injuries

It has been a tough season for the Atlanta Hawks, as several players have been benched due to injury. There has been an injury report loaded with big names in the past week, including Jalen Johnson, who is out because of an ankle injury; 2024 top pick Zaccharie Risacher, who is also out because of an ankle injury; and big offseason acquisition, Kristaps Porzingis, had to be benched because of the flu. Those three were in the lineup on October 29, 2025, though now attention turns to Trae Young's health. The 27-year-old entered the game averaging 20.8 points and 9.5 assists on the season.

Trae Young, born Rayford Trae Young, is a professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks. He was spotted while playing for the Oklahoma Sooners, his college basketball team.
