Twinkle Khanna Questioned Mom, Dimple Kapadia For Pushing Her In Acting, 'She Had The Last Word..'

Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of superstar, Rajesh Khanna and veteran actress, Dimple Kapadia, made her debut in Bollywood with a lot of noise. However, she couldn't make it big in the film industry and stopped working on the films after a couple of flops. Unlike some other actors who are shy to accept their failures, Twinkle often claimed that acting wasn't for her and she lost interest in it. Instead, she stepped into writing and become one of the best-selling authors in the country, known for writing books like Mrs Funnybones, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, Pyjamas Are Forgiving and more. In a recent interview, the actress-turned-author shared how it was her mother who forced her to take up acting and how she once confronted her for the same.

Twinkle Khanna reveals she didn't step into Bollywood due to her wishes 

Twinkle Khanna recently sat down for a conversation with Divya Jain, where she recalled her brief acting career. She shared that she didn't step into Bollywood due to her wishes entirely. Instead, she had applied for the CA entrance exam, but her mother convinced her otherwise. Consequently, moved by familial expectations, she made her debut in Barsaat opposite Bobby Deol in 1995. Sharing her views, Twinkle said:

"Like many people here, I'm sure, whatever their parents did… if they had a mithai shop, you became a mithaiwala. It was as simple as that. My parents were very keen, and my mother was very keen. I had applied for my CA entrance exam because that's what I wanted to do, strangely. And my mother told me, 'This is the only time that you can become an actress, and later you can do what you like.'" 

Despite making an impression with a couple of films, Twinkle's other films failed at the box office. Consequently, she decided to step away from showbiz. She later stepped into writing and film production, which brought her success and satisfaction. However, the actress, known for her straightforward attitude, made it a point to confront her mom, Dimple Kapadia, about it. Being a mother of two, Twinkle believes that rather than passing choices to children, mothers should understand their strengths and let their children do what they like. Recalling her conversation with her mom, Twinkle said:

"You know, what the hell? You forced me into something. I could have had a successful career as a writer right from then. Then she responds something like, "'Well, what would you have done now? You would have become obsolete.' So yeah, she used to have the last word even then."

Rajesh Khanna was open about his love for his daughters, and despite asking his wife, Dimple Kapadia, not to pursue acting after their marriage, he supported his daughters. Although the superstar thought Twinkle could have been a better writer, he supported her acting journey wholeheartedly. Twinkle once recalled when she first broke the news about her interest in acting to her father. She told The Hindustan Times:

"When I told my father I wanted to act, he was thrilled. He said, 'Go for it, my child. I will always be there to support you.'"

Twinkle Khanna made her debut with Bobby Deol starrer Barsaat in 1995. She went to work in films like Jaan, Dil Tera Diwana, Uff! Yeh Mohabbat, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, International Khiladi, Baadshah and Mela, among others. The former actress was last seen in Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega in 2001. Twinkle tied the knot on January 17, 2001, and the couple has two kids: a son, Aarav and a daughter, Nitara.
