Twinkle Khanna has been setting some never-thought-before standards for women out there, ever since she decided to pursue education and return to university at the age of 48. For the unversed, post her hiatus from the film industry as a leading actress, Twinkle took up the pen and established herself as a successful author, with quite a few bestsellers in her collection. Moreover, pursuing her flair for creative writing, she took up masters in fiction writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. And in a recent interaction, the diva shared an amusing anecdote from her journey of returning to education.
In an interaction on the YouTube channel, A Suitable Agency, Twinkle Khanna opened up about various anecdotes from her journey on returning to the university as a student. The actress-turned-author recalled that for the longest time, she wanted to pursue education again. She mentioned that back in the days when she used to drop her son, Aarav to the school counsellor, the latter told her how she could only pursue education again, once her son grew up. In her words:
“When my son was young, I used to take him to school counsellor and I kept saying, I want to go back to university, and the counsellor told me that for now I have to take care of my child and I can go back to uni when he is older. I used to laugh at that and say, that’s misogynistic, I am going to put you in the newspaper, and he would joke with me about it.”

Further in the conversation, Twinkle revealed that it was during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic that she, as well as her son, Aarav were applying to universities simultaneously. Elaborating more, the diva talked about an amusing moment when they both ended up applying at the same university. Sharing how she and her son reacted to it and also revealing their plans for tackling with the situation, Twinkle said:
“Finally, in the pandemic I decided I wanted to study. So, I did six months online courses at Oxford and I really loved it and I wanted to go to university. I didn’t know which ones to go to. There was a time when my son and I both were applying to universities together and we had one university that we both had applied to and we were horrified, it was not our first choice, but it was like, oh my god, if I get it, I will have my son on the campus and he is going to see me. We decided that if that happens, we will pretend to not know each other because that’s really uncool. But I ended up getting my first choice, Goldsmiths.”
It is not easy to restart a phase of life back again, when it has already gone beyond in the past. However, Twinkle Khanna has challenged herself to take such an endeavour and has completed it with the maximum grace. Speaking along the same lines in the concluding segment of the interview, the diva opened up about her journey at the university and revealed whether she found it acceptable there. In her words:
“I suddenly had this group of university friends. I had four friends and our group was called Scribes in the City. One of us was 66 years old. I am 50, so we had two buddhies and then we had these two 25-year-olds. I have to say that the buddhies kind of outed the 25-year-olds. But it was really nice. I was worried who will I have lunch with every day and I met them and I never had to have lunch alone. So, that was my highlight.”

Apart from her undefeatable zeal, Twinkle Khanna often grabs attention for her unapologetic sense of words. Proof of the same was found during her previous book launch, when she talked about men being like ‘desserts’ to men, in response to her not including male characters in her book. However, such a statement was disliked by many, and one of them even slammed the actress for the same. Nevertheless, Twinkle, too didn’t sit back and gave a befitting reply to the same.
