Udaipur Files was released in India in 4,500 cinemas across the country after receiving the censor board's approval. The film is based on the real-life murder of a Udaipur tailor, Kanhaiya Kumar, and it shows the ordeal his family went through just as he voiced an opinion in support of something. As the film is released and being appreciated, a seat is left empty in the theatre for the soul of Kanhaiya Kumar.

Recently, Yash Sahu, the son of Kanhaiya Kumar, made an appeal and revealed that the film is a message from the family to the people who have been dealing with the pain of their father's brutal murder. On the day of the special screening of the film, Yash shared that his mother wasn't able to see the film due to the pain and trauma, but a seat has been kept vacant for the soul of his father, Kanhaiya Kumar, with a photo of him on it.

Yash even requested the people to watch the film, Udaipur Files and know the truth about the death of his father, and how he was brutally killed for voicing his opinion. He went on to say that the film is not made with the intention to oppose any religion, but to show how terrorism is working in India. He was quoted as saying:

"This movie, which is being released today, Udaipur Files, is based on the incident of my father, which happened on 28th June, 2022. How my father was killed under terrorist conspiracy. These people were connected to Pakistan."

Talking about the movie, his son, Yash, stated that their intent was to show the truth to the nation and leave a message for all of them. He was quoted as saying:

"This is also called NIA's chart sheet. So, all that has been shown in this movie. And there is a message in this movie that such incidents happen in the country, they can be brought in front of the country through a movie, through a cinematic graphic."

Talking about the film's release, Kanhaiya Kumar's wife, Jasoda Sahu, revealed that when the film was initially halted, she had written a letter to the Prime Minister and appealed him to release the film. She was quoted as saying:

For the unversed, Kanhaiya Kumar lost his life on June 28, 2022, in Udaipur, Rajasthan. He was murdered by two assailants, who entered his shop and brutally killed him. Reportedly, Kanhaiya was killed as he shared a social media post in support of Indian politician and BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, whose comments on Muhammad created a controversy in 2022. 

It is worth mentioning that the assailants had released a video after murdering the innocent Kanhaiya Kumar. In the clip, they claimed that they killed him as the tailor allegedly shared a social media post in support of former BJP member, Nupur Sharma. Not only this, Javed, who was one of the accused in the Kanhaiya Kumar murder case, had moved to the Supreme Court against the release of the film.
