The Air India plane crash that took more than 265 lives has left the nation at a lack of words. It has shocked people in India and abroad to the core, with only pain and anguish left to feel. It might seem like a massive number of people died, but in reality, there were families which have been torn apart within a few minutes when the horrific tragedy occurred. Among those victims there were stories of hopes and dreams which now remain incomplete. One such story belongs to Ranjitha Gopakumar, a Kerala-based woman who worked as a nurse in the UK and was planning to come back and start a new life in India.
Ranjitha Gopakumar, who lived in the UK, had recently returned to India to start a new life in her home country. She had been working abroad for years to fulfil her dream of giving a better life to her mother and kids. After working in the UK, she earned and planned to start a new life in India and came to finalise the construction of her new home in her hometown, Pullad. Pulled is situated in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district.
She planned to give a comfortable and peaceful life to her mom and two kids: a son, Induchudan and a 12-year-old daughter, Ithika. Earlier Ranjitha had taken a short break from the Kerala government health service to pursue career opportunities overseas. Initially she worked in Oman before going to the UK, all while holding her dream of living a settled life one day.
She was close to that dream and arrived in India four days before the crash. Consequently, her relatives shared that Ranjitha had completed formalities to rejoin and was just going to wrap up the last paperwork by travelling from Chennai to Ahmedabad and then on that ill-fated flight. In her relative's words:
"She was happy and hopeful when she left. There were so many plans. So many dreams."
The Air India Plane Crash, which has left the nation numb, started with a series of events. It all began when Air India's flight no. AI171 in a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft took off from Ahmedabad airport at around 1:30 pm. Within minutes, when the flight was trying to ascend, it couldn't gain power and began to descend, which ended with a crash at a nearby doctor's hostel just 2 km away from the airport. The flight was carrying 242 passengers with different nationalities with now only one survivor. Even many students and people near the hostel lost their lives.
