When Upasana's statement about 'freeze your eggs' and focus on the career surfaced, people slammed her. Some claimed she was trying to boost the business of her family-run Apollo Hospitals’ fertility clinics and IVF treatment. They claimed that she was sending the wrong message by telling women to avoid their prime fertility years and opt for this scientific process. Now, Upasna addressed the issues.

The entrepreneur stated that she underwent the procedure at a different hospital. Taking to her social media handle, X, Upasana penned a long note and shared her perspective on the backlash. She started off by asking if it is wrong for a woman to marry for love instead of giving in to societal pressure. She wrote:

"Is it wrong for a woman to marry for love instead of giving in to societal pressure? Is it wrong for her to wait until she finds the right partner? Is it wrong for a woman to choose when she wants to have children based on her own circumstances? Is it wrong for a woman to set her goals and focus on her career rather than only thinking of marriage or having children early?"

Furhter, Upasana carefully dissected each criticism she received for her statement. She revealed that she married at 27 for love and companionship to Telugu superstar, Ram Charan. She added that it was her choice. Pointing out that she decided to freeze her eggs at the age of 29.

Upasana further clarified that she got her egg frozen not from her own hospital but from a different one. She also revealed that due to this, she was able to welcome her first child at the age of 36, and now, she is all set to welcome twins at 39. Upasana added that throughout her journey, she had given equal importance to her career and building a happy home. For her, marriage and career both equally hold priority. However, she is the one to decide her timeline, and it is not a privilege but her right as a woman. She wrote:

"Throughout my journey, I have given equal importance to building my career and nurturing my marriage, because a happy, stable environment matters deeply when raising a family. For me, marriage and career are not competing priorities — they are equally meaningful parts of a fulfilled life. But I decide the timeline! That’s not privilege, it’s my right!!!"

Why did Upasana's remark receive major backlash?

Recently, Upasana was invited for a session at IIT Hyderabad. She appealed to women that the biggest insurance for each one of them is to freeze their eggs. It is worth noting that women are always reminded of their biological clock ticking, which makes it hard for them to spread their wings. Tapping on the same topic, Upasana stated that women should have the freedom to have children on their own terms. She said:

"The biggest insurance for women is to save your eggs. Because then you can choose when to get married, when you want to have kids on your own terms, and when you are financially independent. Today, I stand on my own two feet, and I earn a living for myself."
