Upendra and his wife, Priyanka became a target of digital crime after both their phones were hacked, and the fraudsters asked for huge amount of money.

Kannada Actor, Upendra And His Wife's Phones HACKED Due To The Latter, Fraudsters Ask For Money

Famous Kannada actor, Upendra Rao and his wife, Priyanka Upendra Rao, are the latest victims of cybercrime. The two were left in shock when perpetrators accessed their phones by hacking them, and they went on to send messages to several of their associates. In the message, the fraudsters asked for a huge amount of money.

Upendra Rao and his wife's phones get hacked

For the unversed, the hackers first targeted Upendra Rao's wife, Priyanka's phone. She had made an online purchase from an e-commerce website based in Dubai and was looking for the delivery of her order. Priyanka received a call in the morning of September 16, 2025. The caller identified himself as an executive of the company and told her that the delivery partner wasn't able to locate her address.

After which, the caller asked Priyanka to dial a code using her phone. As soon as she dialled the code, the phone got hacked and gave access to her mobile data to the fraudsters. Priyanka revealed that she thought that her phone had hung up, so she took her husband's phone and entered the same code and dialled it. Soon, his phone was also hacked, and the hackers gained access to both phones. In an interview with The Times of India, Priyanka said:

"I thought it was hanging and immediately took Uppi's phone and input the same code and dialled. His phone also got hacked. I didn't have any idea that our phones were being hacked."

Priyanka still didn't realise that the phones were hacked, so she decided to dial the code once again and asked one of their staff members for their phone. When she dialled the code, the result was the same. She was quoted as saying:

"His phone also got hacked. All three phone calls were forwarded to the fraudster's number. They also installed WhatsApp on our numbers and started sending messages to our contacts."

Priyanka said that the hackers first sent out a message to several contacter that they need help. The message read, "Hi, needed some help pls.". Once the contact replied, they would send another message on their behalf that they require Rs. 55K in their account, and they would return in just 2 hours. The message can be read as, “There will be 55k in your account now? I will return in just 2 hours. My UPI is not working properly. It's very urgent now."

After getting this type of message, the couple's son, and three other contacts of their had sent the hackers Rs. 55,000 each. However, there phones were unreachable during the whole timeline. Upendra revealed:

"My son, his friends, and others, at least four people, transferred the money after they tried reaching us. My son thought his mother was in some need and transferred the money immediately through UPI."

However, the moment the two realised that they had been scammed, they immediately contacted the police, who assured them that they would catch the fraudsters. They requested people to be cautious of these kinds of hackers. They also urged everyone not to send money without confirming it.
