Urmila Matondkar was one of the most loved actresses in the late 1990s, and her memorable performances are etched in the hearts of fans. She is known for her versatile roles and powerful screen presence in films like Rangeela, Satya, and Pinjar. Among other filmmakers, she had some of the most successful collaborations with Ram Gopal Varma. Recently, the actress opened up about the rumors of her conflict with the filmmaker and mentioned how she was stereotyped and labeled due to her role in the popular film, Rangeela.
Urmila Matondkar sat down for an interview with Times Of India and recalled being stereotyped in the 90s. The actress explained that in a couple of the characters she played, her fashion and good looks were loved a lot and made people overlook her talent. Although she simultaneously worked in less glamorous and complex roles, gaining critical acclaim, it was often overlooked. Praising the present media for presenting better coverage of actresses, she said:

The Satya actress, who hails from a simple middle-class Marathi background, also revealed that she faced certain challenges as an 'outsider' in the industry. Urmila Matondkar explained that some people couldn't accept that someone from a rather simple background was being successful in the film industry. Despite this, she believes she is a 'people-made star' and her work proves her talent.
In the same conversation, Urmila addressed the rumours of her conflict with Ram Gopal Varma, who gave her some of the biggest films in her career, like Rangeela and Satya. The rumours intensified over the years after the actress didn't do a film with the filmmaker.
