US Tourist, 25, Was Planning To Propose GF, Shot Dead At Puerto Rico, Gf Pens Emotional Last Note

A New York man, who was in Puerto Rico to attend the Bad Bunny concert with his friend, was shot dead. The person is identified as 25-year-old Kevin Mares, who was in the coastal San Juan neighbourhood of La Perla on August 10, 2025, when two people started fighting. Kevin's only fault was that he was present as a bystander in the incident. He was accidentally shot after one of the people who were fighting pulled out a gun.  

The 25-year-old New York man was shot dead during a fight between two people

Kevin Mares sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen, and he was rushed to the hospital in Puerto Rico. According to reports, he died in the hospital during his treatment. Detective Sgt. Arnaldo Ruiz revealed that the shooting took place after a fight broke out, and one of them pulled out a gun and shot at least three people, including Kevin, and a brother-sister duo in their mid-40s. They were injured and are currently hospitalised. Arnaldo shared that Kevin was an innocent bystander who was there with his three other friends. The group was in Puerto Rico for Bad Bunny's 30 concerts. 

Family revealed that the 25-year-old Kevin Mares had plans to propose to his girlfriend in the fall

The 25-year-old Kevin's family are in deep shock. They remembered him as a deeply loving son and devoted friend. The family wrote in a GoFundMe post, which has garnered more than USD 14,000 in donations to help transfer his body from Puerto Rico to New York for a funeral. They wrote:

"His wholehearted kindness, adventurous spirit, and unwavering commitment to family made him a pillar of strength for his loved ones."

The family also revealed that Kevin had planned his future and wanted to propose to his girlfriend this fall. The two have been together for the past six years. The family wrote:

"Kevin had a bright future ahead, with plans to propose to his girlfriend of six years this fall, and he was always creating memories with those closest to him. Family was at the center of everything he did, and his sudden passing has left an unfillable void in our lives." 

Girlfriend penned a last goodbye note

Kevin Mares' longtime girlfriend, Angy Nicole Arguello, had shared a series of heart-wrenching posts just after she posted happy photos from their night out. Sharing a picture with her late boyfriend, she wrote, "I love you, my angel." In a follow-up pictures of Kevin Mares, she wrote, "My love, I love you. I miss you so much. Why, God, did you take him away from me?"
